When I was one a lot of it has to do with the video format IMO. No one wants to watch an hour long verticle video on their app for getting random funny videos.

I haven’t been onto tiktok for a long time but when I was using it it wasn’t for deep content just something to scroll through when I had a few minutes of free time.

Was it healthy? Probably not but I don’t really think it’s related to attention span like so many people think it is. Tiktok is just the wrong format for long videos.

Yeah it’s like, I’m not gonna watch a movie when I’m sitting on the toilet or taking a short break on the couch. Same reason for why I go on here when I’m on the tram or similar

It’s intentionally meant to just be a low effort break activity. You very much can watch or read short-term media with intention

The Lawrence of Arabia toilet challenge is tough, but rewarding. Intermission is welcome because you can get off the toilet and watch a couple of tiktok shorts.

I think you have a good point. However, a lot of the people I personally know who use short form video platforms will sit and scroll on them for hours at a time. I also notice that most of them are not able to sit through a tv show or movie without going and checking the same short form platforms. I think you may be right that part of it is not wanting to watch longer videos vertically, but to me it also seems like there is more to it than that.

You’re probably not wrong. I don’t think I was ever as “into” tiktok as some people are seeing as I didn’t even really notice dropping it that much.
