This great song is a bit of forgotten 80’s that deserves a mention. Benjamin Orr was the lead singer & bassist on most of The Cars early work which made them popular. He passed away in 2000.

I remember this song from when I was a kid. It was a pretty big hit I think because it was constantly on the radio. I didn’t know he was a former Cars frontman. Learn something new every day.
Ric Ocasek was the main songwriter but he didn’t really take over vocal duties until “Shake It Up” happened. My first exposure to The Cars was around that time, so I assumed that Ric was always the lead singer. In reality, most of the songs that I like the best were sung by Ben Orr.
Moving in Stereo should’ve gotten way more airplay.
It was used in Fast Times At Ridgemont High in the scene where Pheobe Cates goes topless. That burned it into my young brain more than any radio airplay ever would have.
I wasn’t “today years old” when I find this out, but it wasn’t that long ago. Their voices are district once you know, but they are similar enough that you and I didn’t catch on. Three that I would have sworn were Ric Ocasek but were actually Orr are “Bye Bye Love”, “Drive”, and “Just What I Needed”.
Yeah, I definitely thought those three songs were Ric Ocasek. I’ll definitely be listening a lot closer from now on.
