Can it NOT have an algorithm? Just chronological please. Same with literally any other feed type site. Don’t throw random crap in my feed.

No, it’s can’t not have an algorithm. Just “sort by new”, for example, is an algorithm.

This is a strange take on a website that doesn’t show a chronological feed (by default anyway).

The problem is that chronological feeds suck hard when activity levels go above a certain threshold. You’d refresh the page and get an entire new set of posts because since last you refreshed, there were 100000 posts made. Chronological is not feasible in that scenario.

Can it NOT be controlled by evil psychopaths? You are picking the wrong fight here. The algorithm is what they bought so they can twist it to their whim.

Uh, the algorithm is what stops random crap. Tailoring just the right balance of stuff that does interest you, might interest you and fits the supplier’s aims is why Tiktok is so popular.

Given the content far outweighs your ability to view it, how would you imagine things would look without any algorithm?

The algorithm is basically a bad replacement for moderation according to you, isn’t it? And no one expects you to watch everything there

“The algorithm” is what interjects things “you might like” or “people you might know”. It’s what tries to push an agenda.

I ran Twitter and Facebook for the longest time in purely chronological order and it would literally only show you the people/places you follow. Nothing more, nothing less. It was the only way I made it useful to me and prevented me from missing things and finding info in time for the event/gathering/sale whatever. As soon as they dropped that option, my feeds got corrupted with people and places I didn’t care to know or follow. Shoving me towards causes and attempting to sway my opinions or enrage me against things it thought I should be enraged about. The Algorithm is one if the reasons countries become divided and set in bubbles.
