Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the plan is intended to make the river a tourist attraction for Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024).

“I will be asking the Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) to submit a designated schedule to allow recreational and water sport training activities including canoe boat and dragon boat racing to be held along Phase Two of Sungai Melaka,” he said.

Ab Rauf said the plan only involves Phase Two of Sungai Melaka as Phase One was busy with the Melaka River Cruise and wasn’t suitable for water sport activities.
