In a video addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s General Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Committee, seven men in military uniforms called on authorities to stop sending waste to a landfill in the town of Poltavskaya, located in the Krasnodar region.

"In almost every family someone has gotten cancer,” a soldier says in the video, adding: “If [the Russian authorities] fail to tackle this problem, we will have no choice but to return [home] and join the ranks of those who aim to close this landfill, those who dream of a healthy future for their children.”

You are talking about people who have been consuming agitprop their whole life about why they should do this kind of thing for their country, and there’s a good chance they were conscripted against their will, where the choice was go to war or die in a gulag. In the same way I wouldn’t blame every American that went to Vietnam for the pointlessness and atrocities of that war either. (though I may be biased on that, my grandfather was drafted and was a cartographer during the war)
