Russia is spending its future, both economically and demographically, and can’t avoid the consequences. But will those consequences hit them in time to help Ukraine?
Even if they are able to grind down Ukraine, can they really be hoping the Ukrainian economy will help Russia rebuild, after its bombed to hell and back?
Unfortunately that’s the same threshold I’ve read for the US. Right now we’re way overproducing at the cost of the environment but I suppose it holds prices lower than otherwise. However US oil is generally more expensive processes, especially fracking, and supposedly not profitable when oil is under $60/bbl
It’s unfortunate that Ukraine can’t afford to take a little time to let Russians surrender peacefully. I expect they’d get a lot more
There’s probably not mucb overlap between those conscripted and those who read and write Western languages.
… or maybe, do they have access to the internet? Sure, educated people do, Muscovites do, but what about people who have been conscripted from?
Your reply may have come between my original wording and an edit that I thought was “quick enough”
Exactly. Passing a tax on empty homes will disproportionately hurt people who can’t sell for homes that can’t solve the problem
Not really, no. Experience in one won’t count the same as experience in the other. Public school pay more attention to credentials and continuing development, whereas private not. It’s not so easy to jump between the two
Yes, private sector too.

Private school teachers, generally, earn less than their public school counterparts
Driving through rural areas and seeing all the unlivable homes. Seeing home listings in the rural area I grew up how long they can be on the market even when houses sell here their first day
I don’t see actual stats, but the internet has l plenty of anecdotes like
Edit: data is mostly by state, but does show rural states have th highest percentage of vacant homes. Looks like about 7.5 million “permanently vacant” homes in the US, or 5% of the market, and some percentage of those just won’t sell
However,Alasaka is a great example, listed as one of the highest percentage of vacant homes - but not one of the highest rates of homelessness
if you struggle to make the ends meet with a college degree it’s on you.
Counter example: teachers
Tax vacant homes.
I know this is a popular idea on Lemmy, but intentionally vacant homes are a very small minority next to homes that are not livable or not sellable. It’s mostly going to hurt people who can least afford it
But no one is realizing anything but these idiots throwing soup belong in jail
let’s talk about what will.
Stop throwing soup.
We’re at the point where idiots throwing soup are called sing more environmental damage than backwoods yahoos rolling coal. Shall we protest soup abuse? Because that’s more likely to help the environment
Speaking from across the ocean where we’re really behind …… I’ve seen articles about UK having days entirely powered by renewables. I see a massive transit system. I see double the EV acceptance. I see why desperado commitment to ending production of gasoline cars.
It may be way too slow but I see a shit load has changed over the years. A lot has been accomplished. Let’s try to speed this up rather than give reactionaries more ammo to delay
We’re not talking about stopping oil production. We’re talking about these nutcases. And when we do get back to the important topic, now it’s harder to get support, harder to stay on topic, environmental concerns are more likely to be dismissed with jokes about throwing soup
And yet it damaged the frame, prevented people from enjoying a work of art and cost money from a museum that has nothing to do with the cause
I understand they used to protest for climate action, but now they’re just nutcases making it harder for the rest of us.
I guess good for them that they got their moment of attention, but not all attention is good attention. Especially over here in the US, it’s hard enough getting half the population to care about the environment, and now they’re just dismiss it as “those nutcases”. This does not help anyone.
Imagine how much less beautiful the world would be if this face weren’t allowed to succeed
This is a war of attrition that’s ruining Ukraine’s interior, devastating its population, and obliterating its economy
And yet they choose to continue. As is their right.
I hope everyone here will continue to support aid to Ukraine long after they drive the Russians out. While nothing can correct the horrors of war, we can help rebuild at least some of what they’ve lost
Bummer, but thanks for finding that update. It was always the risk.
I guess it means I won’t try Thread until get some switches or something to support a third iot mesh
