I agree. I already tend to get tossed into a category because I don’t agree with a majority of the user base. If people can get categorized more by how they vote, and lemmy users are already pretty savvy, I can see a scenario where people get tagged.
Is it because Microsoft is the big dog with money and Linux is no dog because there is no company backing Linux? Windows sells solely because Windows can push the product?
Would it be benificial (albeit this will be extremely frowned upon by this community I believe) for a Linux distro to be backed and monetized via a corporation with a legal team to help push a Linux product on the shelves? In the short run it’s a bad idea, but in the long run it’ll familiarize the public, and push software developers for compatability. The incentive being that there’s money now involved and it won’t be a project for people.
Because right now to use Linux for the majority of user case operations you’d need at least computer science 101 to start installing a distro, partitions, manual software installation, to get running. Or am I wrong on this part?
That’s really cool I didn’t know that was an option already. How does Ubuntu and windows compare for operating system support if I have a problem with the laptop? Is the manufacturer liable for the smooth running of the operating system? Or is the owner of the operating system liable?
So if you did open a computer shop and are selling this plethora of Linux options, doesn’t that leave you liable if there are issues with the operating system?
If I buy a laptop and my windows is running poorly don’t I have windows support taking care of my windows problems?
If I buy a laptop from you with mint installed and am having problems I can’t contact Linux for support, I’ll have to contact you the shop owner.
Won’t this liability discourage shop owners from selling laptops/desktops with Linux?
Call me naive, I know I am. But how can Linux be a moderated product to sell for desktop? I know phones run Linux, and many other products like streaming pucks run Linux (or is called unix?), but what would it take for an operating linux system to be centralized into a package to toss into a lenova laptop you’re staring at in best buy?

Wow I would have went through so much trouble trying to figure out my problems before stumbling on moisture problems. Especially since I’m printing in my garage.

It’s interesting that the instructions for preparing the AMS had me take out the dessicant from the 2 trays in the roller area. I was wondering what the point of these being empty was. I’ll fill that with back up with dessicant.
Oh I see! OK yeah I’ll keep it for when I need it. But it doesn’t seem like I’ll need a lot of it so I’ll keep it to the spool I got.
I was using structural filament, used for breaking prints apart. Once I switched to the regular PLA everything went fine.
I’m not sure about a filament dryer. I’m sure the P1S comes with something robust.

Before I read this I went ahead and booted up bluebeam studio and got familiar with it. Did some research and got a high temp plate just in case the PEI standard plate the machine came with won’t work with PLA+/PETG. I’ll eventually want to be able to print robust parts as components.
Then I used up my ebay gift cards and got esun and sunlu on huge sales (there’s like 3 different discounts going right now). Got 17 PLA spools in all sorts of colors including wood, marble and even 2 glow in the dark ones (red and blue) for less than $200. 1kg. I don’t think they’re cheap, since regular price averaged around $20/spool, 30 for the glow ones.
I won’t use structure either. I heard it’s not necessary. I’m doing my first custom build (kind of, just modified off an existing build) of couple deck cases with the orange/green I have. I already did a couple other runs on the green and that solved the issue with fuzzy cheap builds. I was using the wrong filament. So now I’m excited what I can come up with!

Wow thank you. I’m home now, and I’ll swap the white one out for one of the other ones and see how that fares in making a print or 2. What do I do with the white one? Put it in the last slot? Does the machine know when to use the white one as a support?
What would you consider is your favorite filament to work with? I’m thinking of splurging on a set off ebay. But at the same time, are discount filaments ok?
And do you use a special plate? People have mentioned golden ones that are easier to bend to pop out the build? Mine just scraped off fairly easy. And I’ve read to use hairspray or windex to make it easier to pop off later.
I’m sorry I’m asking a lot. I get a hang of things pretty quickly haha, so once I’m going on a system of what to buy and how to install it I’ll be good to go.

If you’re hit in the torso, there’s a strong chance that you’re dead if you don’t get immediate care. Lungs, heart, liver, kidney, stomach, everything is in there. You don’t need to magically aim. And this isn’t a conversation of accuracy in automatic vs semi automatic. Thats a stupid strawman argument of bringing up something completely irrelevant. You’re being pedantic. Man it doesn’t even need to devolve into a debate. You get berated just for having an opinion on something more and more. That’s the problem with the voting system anyways. People that don’t share an opinion with you shouldn’t even have an option to down vote. Just don’t vote at all. Up votes are for shared opinions. But even then the biggest gripe I had with reddit was the system has the up voted “popular” comments as the most viewed as well, leaving the opinions of people unseen without looking for them.
People are impressionable. If they see everyone agreeing with a comment they feel they need to skew their opinion towards the common dissent or risk being alienated. We’re communal creatures. And social media screwed with our heads with the need to fit in.
