I guess I’m the only one in this thread that does other things when I’ve got down time away from the computer. When I want to play a video game, I don’t want to play a shittier version of it.

So glad I have a computer I can play games on so I don’t have to mess around with a smaller computer with a smaller screen and worse performance.
Edit: I pissed off the dad caucus with this comment. Steam decks are only for dads who can’t get more than thirty minutes of game time anymore and have no space for a legit gaming PC.
Muslims do not generally believe in cultural or moral relativism. Allah is the one true God, his moral teachings are objectively correct. Why offer them a way out that they themselves aren’t able to coherently accept?
Besides, cultural relativism is nonsense. If someone tells me it’s okay to molest children, their perspective is not “just as valid” as mine. They’re a monster.
Yes, this means a lot of people in the past, and today, are monsters. That’s extremely plausible.
Whoa TIL I’m a slut
Consoles are great if you want the same thing you can get on your computer but with worse graphics, shittier framerate, and a terrible device for input.
The problem is more why he changed his view: it affected him. There are people who change their views because they’re curious and empathetic and finally get the time to look into an issue and see how it affects other people. Those are the people that deserve praise for changing their views, even if they used to be conservative shitbags.
Man, where do you live where unemployment is nearly a year at 80% of your salary? When I was unemployed here in Washington, it was six months and more like 50% of my salary. And from what I understand, Washington is a lot more generous than most states.
Lots of good reasons why someone might end up in debt. I got divorced and laid off. Dog needed $2k surgery to not have a terrible quality of life. Got a terrible staph infection on my chest after losing health insurance. This all happened in a four month period. I moved to a cheaper apartment, cut off any subscription aside from internet, which I need for two of my four jobs, got a cheaper phone plan, and mostly ate rice and beans every day. Still, it’s taken a year just to get back to zero.
It’s remarkable how this is basically exactly where I’m at, too. I’m two months of salary away from zero.
Well shit, never had that experience in all my 37 years.
According to philsurvey, 80% of academic philosophers in the anglophone world are. About ten percent are agnostic and ten percent are theists.
As somebody that spent three years trying to get a job as a tenure track philosophy professor, this is very accurate.
Listen, don’t tell anybody, but I’ve got a real boob fetish.
I never once saw an electric kettle until I was an adult. Then again, I’m from Idaho.
I’ve timed it with my kettle and it’s literally the same time to boil one cup.
The brutalizing effect is the opposite: by seeing this kind of violence, people are more likely to normalize it and engage in violence themselves. That’s the hypothesis, anyway.
Well, the simulation argument may not make a difference, but the free will one might. If nobody has the free will necessary for moral responsibility, then many of our punishment practices can’t be morally upheld. If nobody deserves punishment, we should only use it as a means of keeping social harmony, and that means we should do it a lot less and a lot differently.
Simple: pirate adobe acrobat and ocr them yourself.
Does ublock origin even work with chrome on YouTube anymore? I switched to Firefox a couple months ago because, even after updating ublock origin, YouTube still detected that I was using an ad blocker and refused to show me content.
Maybe bring a book? Why not save gaming for when you can actually do it well, not on a tiny screen at sub-60fps?
