So, I’ve managed to get it into downloading mode by holding both volume up and down while powering it on.

Problem number one is there’s a utility that most articles reference that starts with like “B2C…” something and it says it’s supposed to download a huge file and eventually prompt you to attach the device. But it never gets to that. I have let it sit for hours. My thought is that whatever was on the other end it’s supposed to get in touch with is not there anymore.

I’m wondering if I could flash like an AOSP version or something. LG doesn’t have the rom on their site anymore, nor do some of the sites that claim to. They just send you into loops of clicking.

So, still working on it.

I tried a thing I found online with some recovery program you run on Windows but it just hung there and did nothing. I’ll look at these in a while.

Well, it would stand to reason that I erroneously did. I meant that I didn’t intentionally nor did I notice changing anything.

I guess maybe I could format an sd as internal use, since it just mounts it seamlessly as part of internal storage. Sucks to have to do that though.

Just don’t buy the cheap pieces of crap at the checkout counter at 7Eleven, or the ones from China that are 25¢ per dozen on Amazon, and you’re probably okay. Get a recognized brand one on sale or closeout etc.

I don’t think ZTE are banned in the U.S. I’ve bought and sold them on eBay. I haven’t used one but I think the carriers attached were ordinary American cellular companies.

I have no fear the way it was stated seemed to imply that’s where the root had to point. Glad it’s not the case. Seemed odd to say the least but it was referenced absolutely so that’s what I thought. Not a problem.

Ah ok it seemed like it was immediately that the root had to be there.

If that’s the case then I probably don’t need gui but I would prefer to be able to put files wherever I want. Like if I want the web root to be somewhere other than /var/www/ that’s actually not really gonna work for me.
