The Factory Must Grow

I’m almost 100 hours into my new space age save, and I’ve played nearly 1k hours since I bought it 5ish years ago. By far one of the most enjoyable games I’ve ever played and I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys sandbox games

This is the thing a lot of Mastodon users seem to miss. I was on Twitter because of specific people and companies. They aren’t on Mastodon, so I have no use for it.

I’m actually a mod over there, but as a general consumer of content, there’s not enough to make it a viable community. It’s seen a little more activity recently, but is overall a fairly small and dead community.

Simracing. We don’t relate to typical gaming at all. It’s all high end hardware, all very specialized and typically doesn’t interest normal gamers.

Subreddit mods are very against Lemmy or anything that moves them off the platform. The absolute butthurt rage for weeks after the protests proved that one right.

Mostly I just don’t see this platform as an alternative for medium sized communities. It works for large ones where there’s enough people that after a move if 25% transfer then you still have a lively community. Or for small communities where you can get 70%+ to move. But those mid size, 100k users on average communities trying to get them to move just ends up with a ghost town here.

They kinda do though. I can’t post about my gaming niche in a gaming community because it’s barely tangential, and still haven’t found 99% of the communities I had on Reddit.

Lemmy is good for /all, and that’s about it tbh

The games that sit at the top of the player counts are almost always multiplayer competitive games. In a lot of ways, there’s been nearly 0 movement in the space at all since covid. The same games are still right there at the top because no new massively multiplayer game has released to top them. FPS players play CoD, Apex, Fortnite and Pubg, Dota is massive in Asian countries, GTA V has a huge cult following (check out its twitch category).

Satisfactory being top 10 is an outlier rather than the norm, being a single player game.

I agree with the other commenter who said that players of these games consider themselves players of Apex/CoD/Pubg before they consider themselves overall gamers. That’s the case with me now, and I rarely launch anything outside of CoD or Apex as I have little to no interest in single player games.

It is. The corn is all dying and is so monogenetic that it is all susceptible to the same diseases.

It’s a major inconvenience and I’ll stick to one. If it can’t be accessed from Lemmy.world it’s not really my problem tbh and I’ll just act like it doesn’t exist.

Banking tech is still run on FORTRAN and COBAL. It’s ancient and pretty much can’t be upgraded. Until there’s a major push for new technologies across all banking it’ll keep being this bad

Damn, that was the game I was most excited for. Respawn FPS games are my favorite (TF1/Apex) and I was really interested to see what they’d do with star wars

Mine was too. We still had a couple systems using the old methods, but mostly had moved to the token system.

The Linux series was one of the best, because it showed what would happen if someone who didn’t know what they were doing tried to move to Linux. Linux shills have been preaching “it’s the year of the Linux desktop” forever now, but since it’s so different from windows and macOS there’s a massive learning curve that only shows up once you’ve switched.

I would bet 8/10 people who have used windows/macOS for 30+ years would have many of the same problems as Linus did. I know I’ve made many of the same mistakes that were made by Linus/Luke in that series, including accidentally nuking my DE.

Linux sucks as a desktop if you aren’t already familiar with Linux from the terminal. There’s a few edge cases, but for the most part it’s not a good experience if you do anything more than web browsing.

I’m no Linus shill, though I do enjoy their content for the most part. He’s not a tech god like people make him out to be, he’s just a slightly above average tech nerd who’s a good presenter. And that’s the audience that the Linux shills are trying to push the OS onto.

Orchestra positions are often jobs that these people will keep for life or until a seat in a new orchestra opens up. There’s an extremely limited number of jobs. I had a fairly distant cousin audition for the Seattle Symphony, for the single open trumpet seat there were north of 200 applicants. It’s such an incredibly competitive field that if you walk out, you might just possibly never get back in.

Whatever it is, I’m having the best time gaming I’ve had in years with it, and at a $20 price point, I’m well happy to have bought it.

It’s certainly not well made, as it’s buggy as hell, but it is fun, and that’s been missing from a lot of games recently.

I’m playing exclusively in a multiplayer world with my brothers, and we’re having a blast. If I was playing alone it’d probably be less fun tbh.

I agree there. At the very least with the first of them. The 2nd and 3rd started to add a lot of crafting mechanics, but I really enjoyed the first one (and have played all 3 to completion)

That’s Cyberpunk 2077 (with a bunch of mods) for me. Sometimes you just end up really immersed and have a great time.

I’m just competitive. Nothing beats absolutely decimating an opponent to the point they quit.

I also get 0 satisfaction from beating a computer. I do that every day as a software developer, so I’d much rather play against other people.

Also competitive games are great because you can play hundreds or thousands of hours and almost always get new experiences. Some team is going to throw something at you that you haven’t seen before, and it keeps the gameplay interesting and dynamic.

Racing games for the most part are because it is something I can’t do irl. There’s no way I’m going to get to be one of 12 drivers running the brand new Prototype race cars, but I sure can get almost as close in a racing simulator.
