For example, the usual BAC calculator assumes 1 serving is 0.6oz worth of straight alcohol. That equates to 1.5oz of 40% liquor, a 12oz beer that’s at 5%, or a 5oz glass of wine that’s at only 12%. So at my weight, two servings over an hour puts my BAC at just 0.03, which is under the limit to operate motor vehicles in many countries. To be clear, I NEVER drink and drive, even after just one drink. But I’m this hypothetical scenario, I’m quietly sitting down in a plane seat, not operating machinery.

The last time I flew, my flight was delayed 4 hours. 2 drinks per hour wouldn’t even put someone my size over the limit to operate a motor vehicle.

Sports games have been doing it faaaar longer. Madden started in 1988, released a sequel in 1990, then hasn’t missed a year ever since. The baseball and basketball counterparts existed just as long.

But WoW didn’t really do anything new, just bigger, better, with a lot more funding. Everquest and Ultima Online did everything first, they just didn’t have that Blizzard money.

Hate to break it to you, but this had been around for decades before those games came around.

This is just the current tech’s version of a timeless problem, though. People have always been able to just say shit and cause problems because others believed them.

Examples:

In the late 1930s, the War of the Worlds story freaked a bunch of people out when it was first broadcast.

In 1897, Mark Twain’s death was falsely reported enough that he publicly commented about it.

There’s also the Great Moon Hoax in 1835.

William Anderton is a famous example of fake news from the 1700s.

we’ve even got fake news in ancient Rome involving Octavian, Marc Antony, and Cleopatra.

People will always be doing this dumb shit, whether it’s a town crier, a printing press, or a social media site.

The key is to exercise critical thinking and promote its use to everyone.

I had an absolute blast with the farsight gun. But honestly, if they bring it back, I hope they nerf the fuck out of it. Because kids online will be fucking insufferable with it.

Back then, you were playing with your friends in the same room. If one of your friends was being a douche and griefing with it, you could just slap them.

The tough part to recreate is that the multiplayer was so fun because it was innovative. It was one of the first games to do stuff like that.

24 years later, we’ve had a lot of games do a lot of stuff as well.

… But I’d still happily enjoy bringing all of it back, even if it was just a cosmetic facelift.
