  • Polyurethane, a pretty common plastic, which is usually in a volatile solvent but can also be water based. Its very cheap and easy to apply. It adds new material to the surface every time and is often pretty thick. Oil soaks into wood and doesn’t protect the surface from mechanical damage. Its also expensive and difficult to apply. The low spots are where the decades of plastic have chipped away revealing the original wood. If you got a sample from the high spots you could count the layers like rings in the wood and figure out when the put the bench in.

  • I’ve been a long time eGPU user so that was probably the biggest thing I wanted from my steamdeck. But years on I’m not really sure how much I would use it. I use my CPU heavy laptop and eGPU when I want to game big. I’m not going to replace my laptop with my steamdeck. If I want more power than what my steamdeck has, but play on it, I just stream from my laptop + eGPU.

  • Glance works to deliver recommendations to users like ads, news articles, and more on the lock screen.

    How do I block it?

Glance will side with offering a subscription service where users can pay for “premium news” on their lock screens every month.

Oh, so just don’t pay for it, right?

Fortunately, you can disable Glance on the phone, but we found that the service would occasionally produce a full-screen prompt on the lock screen, encouraging you to re-enable the feature.

Oh, so more bloat using resources even when disabled.

Glance will seek to make a profit through the aforementioned subscription and if users interact with its “product of the day.”

Its literally just a venture to capture and advertise on every visible space possible.

It looks like I’ll be spending 2025 onward with Linux and a flip phone.
