  • I don’t think so. Maybe I’m misunderstood, but the “I use Arch” meme was meming on the fact that using Arch was a flex, like it’s harder to get into, and you’re a true blooded Linux user if you’re using Arch.

Whereas, Pop_OS is kind of the opposite. I’m fairly new to Linux (been using a Linux system as my daily driver for about a year), and Pop_OS was recommended as a beginner-friendly distro. Plus, it worked well with Nvidia cards with minimal effort. So maybe it seems like a lot of people are using Pop_OS and are bringing it up, because there are a lot of newer Linux users.

  • While most of these are a good rule of thumb, I disagree with ‘Always Happy to Help.’ > ‘No Problem.’

‘I’m Always Happy to Help’ is a fine response, if you’re actually willing to make your time available for the recipient at the drop of a hat. Sometimes that’s called for, but I would only reserve it for a few very specific circumstances. I also don’t see an issue with saying ‘no problem’ most of the time. There are situations where something a little more formal is called for, but 90% of the time ‘no problem’ should work imho.

  • Don’t get me wrong, 2023 has been and can continue to be a great year for new releases. But all the massive releases so far haven’t exactly lined up with my preferences. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy for everyone who is enjoying the new Zelda and Diablo 4, etc. It’s just not my thing.

I was feeling very catered to in 2022. I’m still playing the crap out of Elden Ring, and Victoria 3 was my big release for the second half of the year (despite its very real shortcomings). Then there were various indie releases like Cult of the Lamb, and Dwarf Fortress finally came to steam with tons of QoL. 2023 has some stiff competition if it wants to be an even better year.

That said, 2023 still has some great potential. I’m on the fence about getting Starfield. If the release isn’t a disaster, and it’s as cool as the marketing makes it look to be, that could be awesome. And of course, the sequel to one of my favorite games of all time is finally coming out after ~8 years. Helldivers 2 is going to be something of a genre shift, moving to a 3rd person perspective, but I have a lot of faith in Arrowhead to deliver an amazing co-op experience. Hopefully 2023 delivers.

  • Mannnn… I really want to enjoy battlebits. Looks like it captures the old battlefield ‘feel’ really well. It’s just super unfortunate that they are switching to an anti-cheat service that requires kernel access. Even if it didn’t break compatibility with my system, which it will, on principle that’s just too much trust given regarding my computer imho.
