If you are really unlucky the number doubles so many time you end up tied on the tracks.

The first time one of these lemmy servers gets hit with official court papers thing will no doubt change. A big part of the operation budget (well maybe not so big of a percentage but big as in price) is to hire a legal team to handle stuff like this and juggle international laws.
I imagine a few lemmy instances will be killed by things like this.
Xing is short for kissing IE XOXO. So instead of tweeting we are now kissing!
and what have I got to show for it?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
A couple of days? BG3 started letting people play the Alpha almost 3 years ago (october 2020) if you pre-ordered.
The difference is that the email protocol has long been established and any new email client is built to that protocol standard. What we have here is an open protocol still being developed. The fear is that FB will force changes into that protocol and take it over. Then it will no longer be an open development protocol. By expunging FB right now before they get a firm grip on the userbase it can preemptively prevent FB from causing damage.
We are kind of in unexplored territory right now. You could compare it to google/MS taking over xmpp but it’s not quite the same situation either.
But the reality is that the current fediverse doesnt need facebook to be successful. It already has the users to continue to grow. By combining user pools facebook would have the majority share with their instagram users which means they would have a controlling share of users and would leach users away from the fediverse over time until they broke away at which point fediverse would die as most users would be forced to follow in order to keep their feeds.
This way those feeds never mingle with FB and thus fb cant leech them.
I dropped signal when they dropped sms. I get why they did it but they removed their usefulness for most people. You could. Normally convince someone to use it foe sms and then start using the secure features with that person. Now without sms most people wont even consider it.
lemmy.ml followed by a bunch of hate speech.
I was trying to be subtle… but what I meant was that the bots have found him IRL and replaced him… Invasion of the Botty Snatchers…
Not bottiest. They specifically said it was the trolliest.
They’ve already replaced him.
To each their own I guess. It’s not bothersome for me to switch accounts as I normally browse each lemmy locally to make sure I’m seeing as many of the comments as possible. I never really subscribed to the “subscribe/follow” feature of reddit. I liked my front page and all my niche communities separate so when I want to read about xxx I go to xxx subreddit and read all the top posts then move to my next subreddit. To many things fall through the cracks of the front page IMO. But to each their own, again. There is no reason to run lemmy like I do vs one account if it is working for you as is.
3 of them were defederated by beehaw but I also have a beehaw account and then 2 others just in case… But I am sure I’m not the only one like this. So the total lemmy numbers are probably inflated… not that reddit numbers aren’t also inflated.
Bots and multi-accounts. I had one reddit account with no alts. Here I have like 6 accounts because of all the federated / non federated bs.
I think admin, administrator and those type names (system administrator, sys admin etc) should be reserved but you shouldnt ban admin as being part of a name. What about sadmin / sadminute… or badmin / badminute (and every variantion of that like MadMinotaur )and other variants like that.
I’m excited for a few of these games but im not sure I have the time to download the demos and play them. Might be able to get one or two over the weekend I guess.
One Lonely Outpost looks like it could be a cool futuristic stardew valley with a colony management sim thrown on it.
Moonstone Island looks like another good take on SDV. (I like farming games…)
Jumplight Odyssee also looks good. Been following it since the announcement last year?
Pacific Drive also looks fun.
Hammerwatch II. First one was pretty fun coop game.
I think they should implement a “best” category and allow each server to curate which communities it adds to it’s “best” category and just let them game it all they want. Just dont replace any of the current options with it. Then if you select “best” and “all” it would give you content that every non black listed server from your home things is best.
Something feels wrong but I normally just browsed “best” on reddit and that was a curated list of top subs. So it’s weird to me to sort Lemmy by “Hot” and get a ton of posts from random communities with no upvotes or replies. Which they are obviously not HOT as no one has engaged with them except the OP.
I feel like something is “off” with the way it is curating things.
I want more games like valheim. Could care less about the graphic HD quality. Just give me a good game that looks good enough I can forget about my actual life for a while.
I pay 150 a month for 20/10mbps (actual is more like 10/5) with a 1.5tb cap. I would stab a baby to get yours.
