  • My only beef with this video was needing to pause it dozens of times to read the tons of text that flew by too fast. Otherwise, it’s what you expect from Frost: meticulously researched, eloquent, and passionate.

I knew nothing about Nick until the Escapist exodus. I just went with the narrative that it was a solidarity move, and I was thrilled to see SW take off. Frost leaving abruptly (to the public) confused the hell out of me. But that was point 1 addressed in the video. And then the deluge of receipts started.

    Holy hell.

I hope the rest of the SW team kicks this turd to the curb. He’s been riding Yahtzee’s coattails long enough.

No, you see, that’s not how it works. The battery needs to be filled to 100%, just like a gas tank. And you should only ever charge once you’re under 10-20%, just like a gas tank (it’s silly to top up every day, that’s just a waste of time). We must be able to exactly replicate the current paradigm for people to be able to adjust.

I drive about 150 miles a week and get gas every couple of weeks. It takes 5 minutes. If I have to go to a charger I’ll be there for hours. It’s absurd.

  • I coasted through elementary school and ran up against undiagnosed autism, ADHD, and GAD (it was the 80s and I wasn’t disruptive) once homework started getting real. Had no problem learning the material, aced the tests, struggled with homework and writing assignments. “Not working up to his potential” became “lazy.” I took myself out of the gifted classes in middle school and bailed on “college prep” classes in my sophomore year. By the time I graduated I had failed English three times and wanted nothing to do with college and its endless papers I’d never write. Went to tech school for IT/electronics and did field service work for a bit before getting burned out and laid off. Landed in corporate IT and got real intimate with depression. 25 years later I’m still trying to recover from a lifetime of fighting uphill on hard mode against AuDHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and the resulting burnout, keenly aware of my shortcomings the entire time while simultaneously fostering a deep seated contempt for the orphan crushing machines that define modern life.

My life would have been a whole lot easier if I had only been sociopathic.

  • Most folks will probably freak out when they see a terminal window (“DOS box”) on a computer.

Many many moons ago I was working at a small mom and pop operation that used ancient PCs to run their registers. The entirety of the front end ran on a 3.5" floppy. One night after closing, I exited to the CLI and opened edit. I typed in “HELP, STEVE BROKE ME” and went to the back to count my drawer. The shift manager had a proper shit fit.

“What are you editing?!? If you break this machine the boss is going to have your head, it’ll cost thousands to have someone come out and fix it!”

I calmly exited back to CLI and ran the front end exe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
