I might be misunderstanding but that sounds different to a specific alpha channel. Sometimes in game art you’ll store extra information in the alpha channel of a texture. Or even pack four different grayscale images into the rgba channels of a single texture. Is it easy to do stuff like that?

I hate adobe and have been actively trying to switch away from them for a while. I work in game development, though, and for some reason no one has made it as easy to directly modify the alpha channel of a texture. It’s something I have to do a lot and is probably the one thing keeping me from using krita or affinity photo.

I don’t care how they treat each other, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. And I’m not labelling anyone here, I just said I had mixed feelings about it.

They might get better treatment in these cases but I don’t think it would be different. I’m vegan if that helps understand my point of view.

I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand that’s pretty interesting and like, hurray for saving lives. But on the other hand it seems kind of incredibly messed up to raise animals as sacrificial organ sacks.

That part I understand, no more formaldehyde and brains in the milk. It’s more the industry fighting against the term being used for alternative milks which should have their own standards associated with them. Coconut milk and cream have existed for ages and nobody cares. But my (dairy farmer) family all of a sudden have really strong opinions on using the term milk for alternative milks. Or other generic terms being used for vegan products like mince, sausage, burger, steak. All of these things typically have a word in front to describe what they’re made of, but for some reason certain people get real worked up when that word is ‘vegetable’.

Stuff like this is so silly. I understand having rules around how things are named, nobody wants to be misled about what they’re buying. But were cow juice enthusiasts really getting tricked into buying soy juice? Do we have to specify the animal? Can I sell rat milk as ‘milk’ and they’d be ok? What’s the difference between that and oat milk? So long as the origin of the milk is clear I really don’t see the issue.

Obviously I know it’s just dairy industry deep pockets doing what they can to remain #1 but it’s just so silly.

There’s also titles where the Devs cooked and ended up spending too much time and resources and underdelivered on huge flops. See Daikatana or whatever kickstarter game is disappointing people at the moment. Making games is just difficult, let alone making something that everyone loves.

Yeah, so much US content gets geoblocked here. It’s super weird, just a random clip from a show on youtube? woops, looks like that content isn’t available in your country.

I love emojis even though I don’t use them much. I just think it’s really cool that this idea emerged and everyone got on board and now it’s almost like a whole universal language - modern hieroglyphics or whatever else you want to call it. Plus they’re just kinda fun and sometimes it’s easier to convey a reaction with a specific smiley than it is with words. Language, however beautiful and elegant, is still sometimes wanting, you know?

This is exactly what I felt while watching this. Does anyone really care about bezel width or weight or thickness when the differences have to be measured with callipers? And that stupid yellow tint when you’re not looking directly at your phone. I’d actually like worse viewing angles for my phone because it seems better privacy wise.

Battery life is kinda nice if you’re travelling or just not sure when you’ll next be able to charge, but in those cases the solution is always to just get a battery pack for emergencies. All of these criticisms seem so out of touch with how people actually use their phones.

And when those compromises mean you have your phone longer and buy a more ethical, sustainable product that pays workers… Easy choice.

One of my favourite anecdotes is that the agency stole the music in that ad. After a lot of effort the guy that made it finally got them to pay royalties.

As a man… that sounds about right lol. I was watching a show and then realised if I wanted the later seasons I’d have to subscribe to a different service and I took that personally and got annoyed and now I just pirate stuff. No one tells this manly feller what to do.

I’m a fan. I’ve been playing a heap of Shattered Pixel Dungeon lately which is a fork of Pixel Dungeon. I think it’s really cool that anyone can make their own fork of a base project and tweak it how they like. Especially if the original ever gets abandoned.

I’m a game dev by trade, but more of an artist than a programmer, but I like to work on little hobby projects and being able to look into source code is really helpful and nice.

Yeah, they get talked into it by some salesman and insist they use it even though it’s almost always poorly received and never seems to have an impact on piracy.
