  • Welcome to Holland, we’ve arranged good dikes, good infrastructure, social benefits and affordable healthcare for all.

How do we pay for all of it?

Yeah… You now know how. We pay a lot of tax. And I mean a lot. 17+ % VAT on everything. Cars have an extra tax called bpm of around 20%. So half the price of a car is tax. 1 litre (not a gallon!) of ron95? Over 2 euros. Etc. (because that’s not all)

    It’s fun.

And thats why we are tall. Because if we weren’t we would drown in our taxes ;)

  • Just watch that xkcd graphic my dude. Somebody else already linked it. It makes the issue very clear and is quite scientifically based.

Yes, everything you said is factually true. That doesn’t mean your interpreting it all correctly. We not just accelerated it, we where strolling along the path of planetary heating and then decided to step aboard the Starship Enterprise and screamed: “MR SULU WARP FACTOR NINE, STAT!”

We’re fucking with systems (planetary weather patterns) we can’t comprehend. And to solve it we again fuck with that system but now not by adding energy (heat) but by removing energy from it (wind, radiation)

I think both will have issues. But for now removing lots and lots of energy from the system will greatly benefit us.

In the end it will always come down to population control or going interplanetary as a species.

More people on this planet, in this system will always mean more heat. Remove the excess from the system and it will find its equilibrium again.

But… Removing the excess sounds nice but isn’t. Especially when you are deemed to be the excessive one.

You want to know where global warming can lead to? Look no further then Venus.

  • Tbh amstaffs are quite low on the prey drive. Small terriers, dachshunds, schnauzers, pointers, setters and dalmatians on the other hand have a very big prey drive.

I mean, they are not called hunting dogs, retriever, setter or pointers for nothing. And small terriers have for centuries been bred to kill every rat, mice and what have you in their vincinity.

But yeah, in the end all dogs are predators. And if you let them go unchecked bad things will happen. Especially when you have a powerful breed.

Cats do the same BTW. But for some reason we’re OK with dead mice and birds around the house.

All in all its the same discussion as with guns (and cars): guns don’t kill people, people kill people. And with dogs it’s more or less the same: bad or owners who are Inattentive will Allmost always result in big problems.

And while I do love amstaffs, they can be such chill and fun hunks of love, I can’t deny that they do real damage, more damage when left unchecked and we should probably regulate ownership like with guns and cars.

I do not think outright banning a breed is the solution. Because other breeds are just as susceptible to bad ownership. It will not solve it. The problem will just move away from amstaffs back too rottweilers and dobermans. Or another big powerful breed.

Like with guns we should make it harder for the assholes to acquire one. And like with cars you should prove yourself to be able to take care of one.

I see exactly what I expected. I didn’t bought the hysteria on Youtube/insta/TK.

And I didn’t preorder the game because of that hysteria. The Hysteria looked a lot like the Cyberpunk Fiasco. Realistic expectations, we seem to have lost that capability with upcoming video games. When something sounds too good, It is.

I don’t know what you saw Todd say where but I just read some interviews like this one: https://www.ign.com/articles/todd-howard-interview-starfield-sgf-2023 And in nothing i’ve red from him even slightly resembles the hype around this game.

TH: “We do lock it at 30 [FPS], because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff.”

That means 1 thing: not a real action game, more in line of FO4, maybe NMS like but more like RDR. A dogfight @30FPS is over before it starts. Beauty is more important then speed for this game.

Speaking about RDR, TH: “So I think it also as a flow, probably has more of a feeling of a [Red Dead Redemption 2]”

Here you have it literally: a game like RDR. Not NMS. Not Elite. Not StarCitizen. But like RDR. That means that the ships are more of a means of transport then a real gameplay mechanic. And space is just the theme.

TH: “this is like five or six games in one, right? It’s the spaceship game, it’s the on the ground game, it’s just a dialogue game, it’s an outpost game, it’s a crafted game. It does all of these things, and so… And it always is tricky for us to get a good game flow where those things don’t feel like they’re separate game”

That means the spaceship part is not front and center. All these things he states are just pieces for a standard RPG:

    • Ground game: Loot and shoot.
    • Dialogue game: standard RPG.
    • Outpost game: base building.
    • Crafting? Standard part of every RPG in the last decade.

Add to that it’s build with the Bethesda engine. We know it’s capabilities for what… 2 decades? We flew in FO4. But we didn’t steer… It was on rails

This all meant in my mind that the spaceship part had to be a transportation mini game.

So reading the official stuff, I always expected a mix between FO4 and Mass Effect. With a mobile “base” (your ship) with maybe some light spaceship combat. Sprinkled with some exploration.

Not a game which morphed all those separate game types. Just an FP/3rd p ARPG set in a cool science fiction universe.

I think we’re finally getting Firefly.
