  • Your right to free speech ends when it turns into terrorism, racism or a call for a coup.

There are some things that should be banned, such as the twitter accounts that promoted the attempt at a coup in Brazil in Jan 8 2023.

These are the accounts that the judge asked to be banned. After Twitter didn’t comply they started sending fines and eventually outright banning it.

Free speech doesn’t mean you can say literally anything. It means the government cannot punish you for your political views. But they can, and must punish racism and anti-democracy speech.

Also, it’s a misconception that a decentralized service cannot be banned. In fact it’s not hard at all

  • My brother what can they do?? They put diplomatic pressure and sanctions in place but there’s nothing more a country can do to influence another nation.

There are US and EU sanctions in Venezuela since years. But they still manage to live in their limited space.

Saudi Arabia is an Absolute Monarchy. They have a king and all that bullshit. The king is a de facto dictator BY DESIGN. that’s their constitution.

What do you expect us to say?? “hey, how about you abolish your whole political system? Because you know… We kinda don’t like it”

I don’t like it either bro but it is what it is. We have to live with that bullshit. Unfortunately there is no solution to everything

Name a dictator that gets political support from the EU

  • Western powers are willing to recognise Putin as the ruler of the Russian Federation

“A European Union spokesman said the elections were not properly monitored, nor conducted in a free and fair way. The governments of the UK, Germany and the US echoed this.” -BBC on the Russian 2021 elections

    Here’s the article

This has always happened in the past Russian elections. The EU doesn’t push harder on this topic because they know these efforts won’t influence Russia

On Venezuela however, there’s a lot more chance that international pressure will cause changes. Maduro GTFO!

  • It’s just a media game

Every time Russia says “there will be consequences” they’re just throwing threats around like a dog barking from the other side of a fence

All their cards are on the table. The only things they could pull off are drafting more people or going nuclear

They’re now scrambling to find soldiers from other nations because announcing another draft would obviously shake Putin’s control over Russia

I just wish Europe would stop playing this war like a political game. SEIZE RUSSIAN MONEY! What are you afraid of? Ruining relations with Russia? Fuck off! Ukraine won’t have people to fight forever

  • I guess they antagonize anyone that has moderate exposure using their IP

In some countries copyright law says that if you let people use your copyrighted material with little to no impediment then you cannot suddenly request whoever is using your material to stop

Let’s say that Nintendo allows fans to make fan made Mario games for 5 years. Then they suddenly sue everyone and say “hey you have to pay for copyright or shutdown”. A judge can decide that since they didn’t enforce their copyright for some time they cannot sue people that are using their IP.

From a legal perspective the act of policing your own copyrighted material is the company’s responsibility. This law prevents companies from relaxing their copyright claims for years (essentially allowing people to use it) and then suing everyone for using their IP. In other words Just let everyone use it, then sue them. The law is there to prevent that

Nintendo is likely super strict because “let people use your copyrighted material with little to no impediment” has room for interpretation in a court room. So they go to the conservative side and shut down everyone. Also consider that they’re right next to China. The piracy capital of the world. It’s not a surprise they’re scared about their copyright.

I’m not saying that what they’re doing is right. It’s not. But I see where it comes from.
