  • I did, and while you give a meek might be used to teach history using a physical example at an arbitrary time in the future, you seem to miss my rebuttal that those are few and far between and it is just as easy for its use to swing the other way in the future. Stop trying to get people to care about a plantation burning down. Even with your more “altruistic” take it comes off very distastful. I’ll leave with a quote from an article about it

“I wouldn’t necessarily say that the history is lost. This artifact is lost, but the history is still there,” Duggan said.

“If you’re mourning the loss of Nottoway, I would encourage you to learn more about it. Learn more about other plantation houses. You can still learn from that history.”

  • While your sentiment is a good one, from experience of living around such historical sites, most I have seen are operated by people like United Daughters of the Confederacy. The street really goes both ways with historical sites and while they can be used as grand gestures to show a horrible past in physical form to some who may see it, it can also be used as a propaganda tool of “lost glory” as the dsughters put it.

There is a town not too far from where I live that has a long history that has tons of white washed messages by the Daughters. Its frankly gross, but many people in that town don’t bat an eye because those same historical buildings are used to re-enforce their view of the world not change their perspective.

  • I definitely think Microsoft is going to abandon Xbox because I think the see the writing on the wall in so far as why they are in this market. I think there will always be a place for dedicated gaming hardware like the PS5, but I think it will become more of a niche purchase as time goes on and I think Microsoft does too. I think they don’t like the numbers they are predicting for future console sales, but they do like the ones they are predicting for cloud gaming, since, in theory, anything with a screen and an internet connection could be a console these days. I have no clue if it will pay off for them (personally I hope not), but as technology gets better, the more space for people to settle throughout the wide spectrum of compute power. Microsoft I think wants to try to fill as much of the space as possible.

Just as a final note, that is a touch on my more personal opinion. I hope cloud computing is seriously considered as a huge source of the carbon footprint of the world with how much power it consumes.

  • Lol, I would actually love an example of the “inevitable” outcome everyone always touts. Everyone says it, but I don’t ever see anyone actually stopping talking about these people or making anyone apologize. You are right, he died hundreds of years ago. We don’t need to punish or blame anyone. We also don’t need to stop teaching physics just because it was forged by pieces of shit. If we are going to talk about the people who discovered this stuff at all (which we don’t have to to talk about physics) there is no need to white wash the history. We can be adults and recognize that just because someone did something important doesn’t mean they were perfect or even a good person at all. We don’t chose who makes great changes to our world, but it doesn’t me we have to hide who they or or what they did.

  • They literally are making a new app that, sure, has a very similar look and feel but its for a completely different platform. Sure, it probably shares UI code, but I’m sure a lot of the code to pull from reddit had to be scrapped. I think they deserve to be compensated for their effort and giving any one the app just because they paid for a different app woyls not be compensarion for their efforts. They have to get paid so they can live just like you and me.
