I’m looking up the opening scene for Rise of the Tomb Raider and I can’t find the therapy session itself. Maybe it was only in the trailer and they cut it from the game, I remember people thought it was weird when they released that trailer because it was unexpected at the time that this was the direction they were taking? But the game does have you find tapes of Lara’s recorded sessions talking with the therapist, like how she’s having control issues and it turns out she has become a different person in a bad way.

The third game of the reboot trilogy starts with her tracking this evil organization that’s been screwing with her family, finding the item they’re trying to steal to trigger an appocalypse, stealing it first, and almost triggering that same apocalypse because she doesn’t know what she’s doing, thinking she’s doing good. Second game also started with her tracking the same organization to figure out what they’re doing, and from that, she stumbles into some archaeology. It’s a long character arc, she was looking for unrelated answers, but she learns that she can be good at figuring out ancient stuff, and she finds out the hard way that she can also fuck up badly when she doesn’t know what she’s doing. It’s supposed to end at the point where she’s mature enough to do better. We just see all the “fucking up” parts.

  • and the grammar squiggles damnit, they lied!!1

It’s just a colloquial thing, a grammar book will tell you it’s wrong, but people make up new words and meanings for long enough and things become commonly accepted and understood. It’s also a cynical use of the word, and the fact that it feels off is also effective in telling you that the meaning should make you feel uneasy - for this word we are talking about a fascist government abducting people and actually everybody knows what happened, after all. It’s perfectly cromulent, it doesn’t have to be Tiktok lingo (but words like unalive may very well become acceptable too).

  • Ace Attorney seems complete, including the Investigations and Great spin-offs. Mega Man collection apparently doesn’t have Mega Man 11 (last entry in the OG series) and the bundle doesn’t have the Zero series (4 games), the ZX series (2 games), and the Star Force series (3 games). There’s a separate collection for the Zero series, and maybe the ZX series too. I don’t know about Star Force. Also no Mega Man Legend 1 & 2, no Mega Man X Command Mission, Mega Man Power Battle, but those are different types of games, not the classic 2D platformers. No Zero and ZX is quite a miss though.

Actually, it has been identified as one of the bigger issues. Lack of childcare options means one parent needs to stay home, means one income, means lots of women tend to just work a few years in office exclusively to find a good husband and then drop out of everything (cue the incel population who understands that if they can’t have a huge income, they might never get laid). Also, single income participates in the terrible work culture where staying at one company forever is the better option because people who leave get burned everywhere. And this lifestyle, this work identity, this lack of prospectives, is a big part of why young people are losing hope fast. This vicious cycle has been pretty well known forever, and childcare has been recognized as a major starter of it for a while.

Housing in Japan is often a culture of 3 generations living in the same home, single income participates in that too, but there are housing options - Japan has a notoriously high number of empty homes, abandoned and falling apart; we don’t have any perspective right now on what direction this could go if the demographics started improving. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone ever bring up that education had any particular problem, as far as I can tell they get what they need. In all of those fields there’s probably a bunch of issues about outdated standards everywhere, but there’s no big issue about entire spans of population dropping out of education or housing or feeding.

Yeah, Japan is notoriously deep in a hole about that: the total lack of child care support has long been identified as a major drive for all the gender inequalities they have (employment high up above everything else, then salary), which is super bad. There have been talks about something like child care for a few years, and apparently only now they’re actually doing it - they’ve been extra dragging their feet for a long time, and if they’re doing it now, it’s only because they finally accepted that their known demographics disaster will not be miraculously fixed by checks notes doing nothing. Hell must be freezing over right now.

  • Both arms was my first take too considering he’s specifically named the one winged angel because of the one black wing replacing his arm, but he does have a whole extra head visible behind the text, in the same way Bizarro Sephiroth had a big Sephiroth and then a tiny Sephiroth on top - the topless, black wing form sits on a cloud that sits on top of another bigger Sephiroth with white wings instead of just having 6 wings replacing his legs. And there’s still more werid shit going on behind that text that I can’t make out. With how they brought Bizarro Sephiroth in Rebirth, they could be doing the “multiple teams attacking different sections” take again.
