Wait what happened?
Sup.
Wait what happened?
Not really. The same reason why alot of social media is still incredibly successful even when they are actively violating your privacy; people just want something easy to use and out of the way. They don’t care at all as long as it works so when you try to give them an alternative, they might join but then see that no one is on their or is much more difficult and as such results in them hopping and then leaving.
I can see it happening at some point especially with all the alternatives but it’d be really hard to get that appeal especially with how some people within the fediverse view tiktok. You’re also gonna have a hard time in my opinion getting users from TiktTok over so you can’t really appeal to that crowd. I wouldn’t say its impossible but it’d just be really really difficult.
Initially pre orders made sense back when physical media was the only way to get games. Nowadays though, you are absolutely right. Digital games have no right to cost around the price as a physical product (especially when even that physical product doesn’t even have a cool manual and its just an empty plastic box with a disc in it).
Ohh will check it out. it seems to fit my bill a bit.
Mostly can’t sign in to lemmy.world for some reason but otherwise I’d some change for a bit.

Thank you so mucch!!! This honestly helped me alot with finding news. Didn’t even know press.coop even existed.
Advertising requires money. Its a slippery slope that’ll lead us down the same path as Reddit again. We’re better than that.
Why did we even defederate from beehaw?
YARRR
Honestly, just realized you could do it. It’s so weird looking but so incredible nonetheless. This has so much potiential to be so much bigger.
Yeah i know. Thats why i clarified with the additional theory that the only reason they’re doing this is because of regulations or what not and piggy backing off of us similar to redhat in a way but much bigger. That’s why I’m really weirded by that quote too. Its way out of character for Meta to do this and they might have a completely different exterior motive we have no clue about.
I’m on the Mastodon side of it all. More features, better content overall, nicer community and the app doesn’t feel like it was made in a week.
To be honest, the only reason they’re doing this is because of EU regulations. Otherwise, we wouldn’t even be be a thought to them.
I feel like it’d be the other way around honestly. Maybe I’m just shilling but right now the app is literally barebones as shit and it looks and feels like it was made in a week.
Its right front and center. It won’t impact the user until they see mastodon accounts start appearing and hell it might appear again in an update just to tell them that it’s happening.
Also i know this might be off topic and or meaningless to you but this is a quote from Adam Mosseri who heads the project:
“If you’re wondering why this matters, here’s a reason: you may one day end up leaving Threads, or, hopefully not, end up de-platformed. If that ever happens, you should be able to take your audience with you to another server. Being open can enable that.”
Up to you to decide what they mean by this and how you want to treat it. For now my own personal theory as to why they’re doing this is because of pressure from the EU’s Digital Market/Services Act and it’s one protocol for all policy they’ve been promising it seems.
And the reb00ted article I got this idea from: https://reb00ted.org/tech/20230627-meta-activitypub-eu-digital-services-act/
They’re just using us just to clear out from regulations.
“I highly doubt FB will make it obvious to Threads users that Mastodon even exists”
From the very last page on their own setup screen.
Honestly, some things can be done faster/as fast on GUI. So really just use whatever increases your productivity.
