  • Yeah, I was lucky to get the crazy ass unemployment during covid like week one. And I was applying to jobs but not hearing shit back. I had essentially four months of making more money than I had at that point. ($900 a week is pretty goddamn good) and wanted a job super bad lol. Like I was definitely picky but a good fulfilling job can’t be beat. You can only do hobbies so long before you’re doing them to fill time and they loose luster.

Ended up learning programming in that time and started that as a career and am doing incredibly well. So I do love my job and know I’d rather do that than nothing

  • Yeah I’ve been trying to cut out the middle man. My family isn’t technically proficient and I found just having it sync straight to Sonarr and Radarr was saving me a step since I always have them open and already have them accessible on my website. Since TV shows was the only thing I don’t have auto approve it just made the decision on letting it search or going out and manually finding a pack happen at the point that matters to me.

But yeah I still have the request site up but thinking of taking it down because I still have some issues pop up and less moving parts is better for me.

It’s also a plus for me because I use NZB360 to manage everything on my phone which is much better with Sonarr and Radarr

  • Fwiw there’s a new feature in Plex you have to opt into but the Sonarr and Radarr devs figured out how to use it. So you can make it so things people add to their watchlist on Plex get sent to the 'arrs. Like I have it auto add movies and search for them with the typical profile and then add TV shows unmonitored and send me a text message.

Really simplifies everything. Like now my grandma doesn’t have to go to a website and stuff. Since even if you turn off the free TV spam the search function will still return things you don’t have and let you naturally add it to your watchlist and even put it in a recently added bar on the watchlist page when it’s there.

  • Mastodon/Fed Twitter integration. You can post on a Lemmy community, tag a hashtag and it becomes a microblog (tweet) at the same time. But upvoted and downvotes are public on kbin. So depends what you want.

And in the long run we’ll see if kbin can keep up with the Twitter like software on the Twitter side and if it can keep up with Lemmy for reddit features at the same time. Like Lemmy can focus purely on meeting Reddits features then passing them. Kbin has to worry and work on both.

  • Searching for files is not what Sonarr and Radarr are really strong in. They do an excellent job of managing files and keep track of shows. And occasionally ask an indexer to find them.

Indexers are what actually search files. Jackett was the popular manager, Prowlarr is the new hotness and really simplifies the process a lot.

But bigger point being Sonarr, Radarr, and Prowlarr work together to find and manage files. They are only as good as what you set them up to do. Prowlarr can search 50+ torrent websites for a file at the same time if you set up all the integrations for those. It is better than any one website because it can search them all, even RarBG when it was up. It also works with NZBs and search them all at once. Then you set Sonarr and Radarr to the quality and type you want and they’ll pick from the search results automatically.
