I only played the original. I didn’t really like it at first, thinking that the augmentation and mod stuff was needlessly complicated for this kind of game. Also the graphics weren’t all that great in comparison to other games using the same engine. There were a lot of attention to details in comparison to other games so I gave it a chance. The turning point came after completing the first part of the story and getting hooked. The story really carried the game and touches on some interesting topics.

A game with a similar feel would be Omikron: The Nomad Soul. It was released the year before Deus Ex, has worse controls and graphics, but the story and setting is somewhat similar.

I think any aliens advanced enough to visit Earth would probably understand it.

Whether it’s horror movies or extreme sports, it is some kind of play, which is about creating a safe or controlled environment to explore things that either isn’t really happening (horror movies) or things that haven’t been tried before (extreme sports).

A lot of extreme sports are actually relatively safe because it’s done by individuals in highly controlled environments. Statistically it’s a lot more dangerous to participate in other sports or everyday activities where there’s a larger risk from other participants or things that are unpredictable. Things like horse riding, traffic and trampolines are more dangerous because they’re more unpredictable. The consequences might be worse if it fails thoughm, making it “extreme”.

Travelling through space to explore inhabited planets absolutely requires the same kind of desire and process of safely testing out things that are potentially dangerous.

Also keep in mind that there are large car registration taxes and VAT in Europe. While this applies to all cars imported or not, it does increase the difference in net price.

Long term politics seem to be a really good strategy for this. Notice how USA is marked as green, even if its only some states who have agreed to do so, and some countries are just grey. However, this is fine, because the manufacturers will still need to make the switch long beforehand in order to keep selling vehicles worldwide.

Just for the record: Some cars from BMW, Dacia, Renault and Tesla are also imported from China and will get a 21% tariff as well. Probably lots of other brands as well.

It will be interesting to see if they will attempt to pull production back home.

VW seems to have an advantage by already going into fully domestic production, but they still need to prove that they can match the pricing.

Stupid thing is that it’s locally so cold that I had to turn the heat back on last week after having it off for two months. I think the reason why I changed from Jerboa was the data usage at the time (July last year). It’d download the entire picture instead of thumbnails. Sometimes it lagged.

The reason why I liked RiF was basically only that I had used it so much that I knew where everything was. I’ve been using Connect long enough that I’m not eager to switch at the moment.

I like to have posts and comments as small as possible, without large pictures being downloaded before I click the post, and it must have a dark mode.

I also tried Jerboa and Voyager, and while they’re also customizable, I couldn’t get it exactly right. Maybe it’s possible now, but I can’t be bothered to keep up to date on three apps when Connect does it just fine.

I’m not sure what any of them look like by default. I basically set out to recreate the way I used RiF for Reddit, which also wasn’t the default.
