If you want people to switch, the apps need to be appealing not a chore. And relearning a workflow you’ve fine tuned over decades is a serious chore and may even be detrimental to your job.

While contributing is great, the BSDs are kinda dying and it’s probably better to spend that effort elsewhere. Even TrueNAS is leaving the BSD space. The fact that most applications are shipping via docker/Flatpak/snap etc. and that BSD does not have a good solution for those does not bode well for BSD.

There just really isn’t that much development for BSD anymore. Everyone who wasn’t on Linux is moving over to it.

How does this work with local laws regarding 2 party recording? If you’re on a video call and this records the other party without their permission, that is AFAIU illegal in many states in the US. I’m sure in parts of Europe as well.

Yeah that’s not correct, downloading pirated content is still illegal, but it makes no sense for copyright holders to go after 1 person for a movie that costs $20.

You go after the uploader strictly because you can sue for damages for each person/ip they uploaded to. It’s just strictly a monetary and legal thing as to why only the uploaders are taken to court.

Pretty sure even if you block uploads with your torrent client you will still get a DMCA for downloading from a public tracker.

I use a private tracker and never get any mentions from my ISP because the studios aren’t on the private trackers to search for IPs because they don’t get invited and also would get banned for not seeding.

I made the mistake of using a public tracker to download something I couldn’t find on my private tracker and got forwarded a DMCA notice the next day by my ISP.

Until they’re testing and pass NHTSA standards, fuckin nope.

Maybe people will change their minds once they see the aftermath of high speed crashes in these things. Or crashes with a MUCH heavier vehicle. With the weight of EVs these days you NEED a car that’s designed around safety.

This is definitely one of those double standard situations. While we shouldn’t be victim blaming, I think there’s something to be said for calling out people who are willing to throw away an existing relationship or form a new relationship just because an “influencer” came up to them and they thought they were rich. Ah well the article is referring to installing apps not updates, that’s not even included in this. But maybe the apps install at the same time now too.

Is that true? Last time I checked multiple icons appeared on the home screen at the same time, but the downloading progress bar will only fill up on 1 app at a time.

Yeah as others have hinted at this is going to be easier with a router/network level feature.

I’m sure there’s a way to do this by setting up a special virtual interface, limiting the bandwidth on that interface and then using iptables to redirect the apt traffic to that interface or something to that effect but I’m not a network engineer and I don’t have the experience to help with something like that. There might also be a way to do this with cgroups to limit the bandwidth but again that’s above my level of expertise.

The tdrop program that let’s you interact with any terminal as if it were a dropdown terminal doesn’t work in Wayland, and it just isn’t the same to open a terminal in the normal way, is lame. Foot is a good terminal for sure but I want the dropdown effect.

It’s its own terminal but I find it to be pretty good and it works with Wayland.

Did you have electron/chrome applications flicker? I’ve been dealing with that since switching to Nvidia (I didn’t want to but Plex only supports GPU encoding on Linux with Nvidia).

Yeah that’s a lot of work. That’s why I just sail the high seas and put stuff on Plex.

Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see any option to install from files with Fennec? Only from a collection. And it seems you can’t add bypass paywalls clean to a collection because it’s not in the AMO.
