#blessed by a chance to learn something on the aw 🙏
Good article. Will finish it later but it seems pretty neutral and relevant painting both the US and China’s history and recent actions. Many interesting parts, guy knows LLMs are not the way to AGI, wonder how much more the American LLM bubble can hold. From what I read, he seems like a real, brilliant scientist, driven by wanting to understand consciousness, but also an Oppenheimer type.
It would have been a terrible idea anyways, and illegal for a reason. Those canals are proper roads, they are narrow and have actual traffic like DHL/UPS boats, taxis, cranes, people commuting, police, ambulances, etc. No, the ambulance is not a quirky thing, regular ones and helicopters are not really an option.
Yeah during the first lockdown they were pretty clear. The thing is that they’re incredibly shallow and muddy, and Venetians use boats as their main mode of transport (after walking) so it never settles usually
Don’t mind me, just rocking my battery-powered hat
Both comments are right. It is still a buggy, minimal alpha, but i would say in the last year or two it has become a somewhat enjoyable game rather than a tech demo you’d check a release every once in a while.
Development has consistently been a shitshow, but there really is nothing else like it.
“bitcoin bros” who use custodial wallets and “bitcoin bros” who do high-frequency trading on Coinbase are not the same people. This is not good news any way you spin it, just further consolidation of power.
If the internet actually enforced copyright to the letter of the law
Whose law? Whose enforcers? The Internet is fundamentally incompatible with traditional sovereignty and jurisdiction concepts
EDIT: I got whooshed. Thanks for the reference :)
edit edit: Holt shit how did I miss this for 15 years. This is great, stayed accurate all this time.
Shoutout to software that had to deal with y2k and is still popular, gotta be one of my favourite genders.
No. The problem is that that system was created and lobbied for literally by Disney and other big “IP holders” like music labels. That “while” after the holder’s death has been increasing to ridiculous levels. They are not getting special treatment by abusing the system, they’re changing the system to benefit them. And don’t be fooled into thinking this benefits bedroom musicians, it’s quite the opposite. (source)
And don’t get me started on how the US treats copyright internationally. The whole world has been effectively subjugated to incredibly ass-backwards rules without even a say in it. “If it’s accessible via the internet it counts as officially published in the United States”? fuck off.
On the other side of the coin, we have agreements such as the Berne Convention, a 1886 document that still governs a good chunk of international copyright relations. Even the “good” parts of such agreements are terribly inadequate for the Information Age where works can be published and redistributed globally with little effort
What is “fair compensation”, in this case, for you? Does bringing joy to millions of people entitle you to more money or do you see the happiness you shared and subsequent fame as part of your “payment” - what you get out of it?
Personally I don’t have an issue with individual intellectual property, it’s the acquisition and trade of it by corporations that I have an issue with. For example, I believe no copyright should last after the creator’s death. Disney is dead, Tolkien is dead, many musicians are dead, let alive creators contribute to their worlds.

Look at history
Edit: apologies for the snarky and unproductive comment, I was hungry.
What I meant is that one of the wonders of the modern propaganda system is making you see everything through the lens of “the system”. If you want to know how oppressive regimes can be overturned, simply look at how it was done before. The French, Russian, American revolutions. Spoiler: it was never pretty.
Mentioning one’s orientation is not “forcing to discuss your sexuality”. It was an introduction thread, not a technical one, so it’s not even out of place. Also, a community forum is not “work”
The political part is the mod intervention, not someone saying “I’m queer”
No, but some catholic orders such as the Franciscans fit the “monk” denomination
I was about to say, who would ever brand their cocaine, whether it was actually SpaceX or some random cartel? I would get the “brand identification” argument at the end user stage, but marking your bulk shipment of drugs just seems dumb.
