Suddenly, I miss the old days of Android. I suppose it’s back to CyanogenMod or whatever it is these days

Regulatory capture seems about on par for Google these days. I suppose I’ll be switching back to OnePlus for Android devices; that’ll be about it for Google stuff in my home.
Like about how that… doesn’t actually change anything that was said?
Right, so anyone adopting such a “buy for a month and binge watch” strategy can still pay ~75% more and not receive a ~75% increase in value.
Nothing is changed.
Well, when the price increases by ~75% and the value does not increase by ~75%, this sentiment isn’t exactly surprising.

Yeah I can almost guarantee that the original plan was always for him to leave. He was going to be the scapegoat with a golden parachute, allowing the company to keep the unpopular changes while disbursing the bad publicity. It’s exactly what he did with EA too.
I hadn’t considered that… fair point. Pay someone handsomely to take the immense PR hit and move on.
You’re not wrong; I suppose my criticism is as much of that practice as it is of this individual specifically.
My only complaint is such maneuvers tend to come with golden parachutes - his mismanagement of Unity leading to the whole fee debacle and erosion of trust deserves no such soft landing.
Frankly, I make solid six figures and still have a hard time even contemplating buying a new car. With how much value is lost short-term it’s like just burning cash.
I think the best vehicular investment I’ve ever made was a moderately-used Chevy Volt for, like, ~14k. That thing is a tank and still gets some EV / efficiency cred.
At risk of smug, things like this really reinforce the arguments in favor of EVs.
Oh no, petroleum is more expensive… anyway…
The lack of Google/Microsoft enshittification is a huge draw.
It’s so weird to see Unity as the MVP on Unreal’s team.
Like, blah blah Unity efficiency aside, this is… not going to go over well.
It’s not just that Reddit migrants tend to bring shitty content but also shitty behavior - dogpiling, partisan circle jerking/navel gazing, etc. all make for a terrible discussion experience.
However, the open-source developer GloriousEggroll mentions that the developer subscription to RHEL is free. So, access to RHEL source code is still possible but inconvenient?
Just want to to note here the Developer subscription is completely free and still allows access to RHEL and its source code if you want exact package sources. CentOS stream basically serves as a RHEL upstream so I understand this change. It may seem confusing for some people.

It’s already going down that road. Many of the subreddits have already become either a strongly neoliberal (r/news, r/politics, r/whitepeopletwitter) or strongly neoconservative (r/libertarian, r/guns) echo chamber courtesy of dogpiling, astroturfing, and mod replacements.
Isn’t paying to remove ads a fair deal?
If the price were reasonable, community practices especially regarding monetization and moderation were acceptable, telemetry-tracking javascript minimal, etc. then sure.
But… we’re not there.
No. PiHole is effectively ad-blocking via DNS; the name is a play on black hole and Raspberry Pi.
Well, this certainly explains my difficulty with YouTube over the last few days. Ironically, the piped instances still seem to be fine…
This might just be enough to push me primarily over to Rumble. There are fewer and fewer reasons to use YouTube and more and more reasons not to.
Pretty much this; the politics subs put an incredibly fine point on it.
