I work in IT. I can pretty much guarantee that server load for a game like this is nonexistent from a cost perspective. They’re not going to be using cloud services, they’re going to privately host because it’s way cheaper. Early days playercount woes were before they added more nodes to their solution. Whatever cost they had for servers is already paid. Electricity and facilities costs are whatever because they are paying it anyway. They can’t just fire the people maintaining their solution either but that’s also baby bucks compared to the money spent building this thing or marketing it.

Gaming protests of popular games never work unless the objective doesn’t alter the bottom line.

A quick google search pulls up dozens of articles about how China is helping the Russian war effort…

India however doesn’t supply arms, but instead buys them from Russia. Instead India is buying Russia’s oil, funding their war effort in another way. I don’t see China truly reducing their war supplies to China, nor do I see India calling off their oil deal. Unless Russia is actually cut off they’re just going to keep getting supplies.

That isn’t how it works though. Nobody is collecting billions in wages. They receive stock which isn’t counted as taxable income until sold.

Just insane that a country can kill hundreds of thousands of it’s neighbors and take their land while being protected by a country decrying the same action by another country.

This isn’t going to solve any problems for the Israelis. They’ll just be a bigger target for the middle east. What happens when the Palestinian kids clinging to life grow up in neighboring countries? Do they think they won’t find more rockets and conduct more attacks? What will Israel do when the attacks come from Jordan or Egypt? invade those countries too?

Haven’t you seen overdraft charges (just now having laws change…decades after becoming a problem), minimal interest rates on savings accounts, ads in streaming services across the board (netflix wasn’t first but the second they did it prime announced it), a reigning in of account sharing based on IP addresses for streaming services (happening across the board after a couple of big players did it)…

I get that you just can’t imagine a world where your game library is RIPPED out of your hands after a 30 day notice of service changes… i’ve seen it happen time and time again for various platforms and games. Digital services can and will fuck you eventually.

The fact is, whoever has possession (e.g. OWNERSHIP) of the decisions for a company can choose to do this, to not do this, or to do something else, or nothing at all. Inevitably decisions by whoever owns that control will change from the predecessors and eventually someone or some combination of someones constituting the deciding majority will sell out. Fun Fact: in the dominican republic it’s very common for cars to never get any replacement bulbs whatsoever throughout the life of the vehicle. The amount of cars you find on the roads with no working lights is terrifying, just like how their drivers behave in traffic.

Opencritic average 89. It incorporates some bleeding edge visual technologies but imo visuals a good game does not make.

If you look at screens without said visuals though the game looks pretty sad.

For the nominations though I don’t know which it would win. It won’t get GOTY or best story against bg3. Best Art Direction would be tough against a game like Hi-Fi Rush, as would Audio Design / Score+Music.

I thought it was a pretty good year for gaming but a lot of the games i’ve found to be amazing aren’t even on the list. Seems like big names and big publishers only.

The problem wouldn’t be the studio making it, it would be the monetization imposed on every facet of it. Any possible add-on would be dlc or part of a subscription. They wouldn’t even allow them to do significant free updates unless it was tied to a paid product or hefty subscription fee.

I don’t really want Larian getting looped into being a WotC shill. I hope they stay independent and keep on making the best games they can make. Single player or small party story games never get old.
