Good stuff, that’s not terrible at all, just the tinyest bit of preplanning - the phone hotspot is an excellent idea.

How have you found offline mode to work while traveling? I remember hearing early on it was a bear to use without wifi without extra steps.
I’m in the same boat as you. For me, the ability to be with other people not in front of my computer, would be my driver.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe this year is the year I make the same jump. Really good, practical use of the tool.
This is what I mean. Why isn’t there an option to not auto connect? Why do we need to select per car? It really does feel odd.
Far and away my least favorite aspect of Android auto is not having a simple, easy option to toggle auto connect.
Another poster shared how to disable auto connect through settings - when I went that route my phone no longer would connect to the car. I had to do it, however because it would auto activate my Bluetooth and fight my wife’s phone to connect in our car.
Android auto started as a phenomenal idea, but through its quest to be as convenient as possible, it went too far and became incredibly burdensome if you have multiusers or don’t want to always connect.
Sorry for my rant, Android auto has really been a frustration for me recently, enough to the point where I’ve uninstalled it entirely and am back to using my phone on a mount.
One thing to consider is getting a larger ride share to & from a nearby BART, it may remove the worry about your vehicle if you’re not confident in the garage situation. Not having to backtrack to the car may also free up your ability to explore esp. if you’re using muni to get around during the day. I second your coworkers, if it can be avoided, leave the car, but that’s just me.
For a recommendation, the palace of fine arts had some really well done escape rooms if you’re into that sort of thing. I’ve done a number of escape rooms & the palace ones stand out as my favorites.
I was on the same track when I read this - Morrowind was the first one that came to mind for me. It just had so much in it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed oblivion and skyrim, but there’s something special about Morrowind to me. Never tried daggerfall, your post inspires me to try to find it again :)
For me, I think the nostalgia of the first iteration is part of what holds me. Halo 1, for example, is my fav of the Halo games as a whole. Sure, I enjoyed many of the others, but there’s just something about that first game and the experiences I had in it that have been hard to top.
The updates has been one of my biggest drivers, they have minimal bloateare, and, the phones are like the sweet spot of value/performance for what i do daily.
