This kind of question comes up in many areas. And which software you use is less critical compared to politics. Of course you can use google and advocate foss, if your question is to be taken literally. It would not be the best thing you could do, but what would even be the best thing? Using software is not helping anyone (exept for software that takes your data or mines crypto while you use it or something). You would need to donate, contribute or bring people to do these things to really help the software/devs. Use which software/service you are comfortable with using.

mkvtoolnix is the best tool for this stuff. iirc ffmpeg has some limitations in this area

ALSA; low level, not really recommended to use directly. JACK; professional audio. GStreamer; idk exactly. Pipewire supports applications using any of those.

I know both of these things. I even subscribed to communities I am not that interested in, but I think they should show up in all. There are some communities that are interesting but I would have never searched for them. This is the main concern I have.

An account subscribing to every community would be the only solution I see atm, but as you said, it’s unrealistic. I could also browse through a whole community search site and look at every community, but that’s insane.

Legally free sounds like free license to me. But I get why you are stressing the legally part. There are actually quite a lot of artists on bandcamp who have nyp for a lot or all of their library. Would you really want to have individual posts for each album? That could become quite spammy. Maybe one post per genre with comments for listing albums is a good idea.
