As a Californian, my vote for president is practically moot, but I still vote because my votes for state and local elections are much more impactful, and I try to do at least enough research that I’m not stabbing in the dark, and if I don’t feel informed enough, I leave that one blank.
I keep getting alerts for Gilroy and Mountain View. Felt nothing in Sunnyvale.
The real trick is to look at the carpool stickers. Ours are expired but they’re still on the car; they’re the pinkish purplish ones. I see a lot of expired red ones too.
Even my gen alpha kid was learning cursive in third grade last year. I don’t expect him to write using it much but at least he knows how to read it.

No kidding! I’m a San Jose native and I had no freaking clue that we had salmon. That’s awesome.
I have MyShake but I also have an app simply called “Earthquake” that pops up pretty fast with what the magnitude is. It doesn’t give any pre-alerts or anything, but I like it anyway because it showed up within 30 seconds of the quake (I’m in Sunnyvale for reference) and when I tapped on the notification, it told me it was a 4.0 based in Millbrae and provided a map.
About five seconds after it stopped, my dog started barking. A bit late, sweetie! My 9 year old near me on the couch felt it, but my 7 year old in her room didn’t. But it’s possible she was just oblivious.
Marie Antoinette was way more of a sympathetic character than this asshole. At least in her case you could explain it away with her being young and sheltered.
Do you have any advice on how to find one? Especially the “local to you” part?
My daughter is super sad about it. We went down to SoCal to do theme parks a couple of weeks ago and there are still a few down there so we went twice just for her. I’m sad about it too; they felt less fake than a lot of fast food.
