We keep seeing a pivot to “services” in so many industries, from movies and tv to music to even Apple - expect the same from big gaming.
Sure, there will be some justifications for the new hardware, but it t will be for the niche hardcore gamers, but not for the majority.
Makes sense, it’s just the way it’s all going.
Agreed! Less pressure or need to scale. Even if growth stopped today, we have millions of people to interact with!
It’s normal. Chill. Not like Threads that lost 80% of its active users.
he’s literally the ‘This Is Fine’ meme.
he sounds like a person in an abusive relationship.
“yeah, he hits me sometimes, but Jimmy’s a good guy y’all! just need to give him a chance, besides… all my stuff is there, where would I even live?”.
Posted about this in Lemmy world support and on lemmy.ml support with screenshots

Is this a better spot to post issues like this?
Apparently Camel Group Co is one of the largest makers of EV batteries…
of course there is! lol
We need a “Not The Onion” community lol.
Fwiw. I’m on Mastodon and Firefly amd honestly they are pretty much the same. One had more features, ones more stripped down, but it’s still just share some words, maybe a photo or video & post, the people like, reblog, share, or comment/reply.
I don’t feel the need for longer post, rich text, or 1000 emoji reactions so I stuck with Mastodon.
And Lemmy/Kbin is scratching my Reddit itch, especially as I’m working hard to build an alternative music community here.
If you are into photos more, there’s also Pixelfed.
What’s great about Mastodon and Lemmy specifically though? The apps. Both have a ton! I’m on Mona for Mastodon and Memmy for Lemmy and it’s really made all the difference.
Finally - don’t worry about mastodon.art - they aggressively defederate from everyone all the time.
Dead?? Goodness - I love Lemmy and I’m working hard on the community I’m building but Mastodon is jamming! I’ve got like 200k followers on IG and only about 700 followers on Mastodon and the convos and engagements blow away IG!
My thing is follow follow follow and then favorite, reblog, and reply! Been amazing.
no, did calckey for a bit (now firefish) which I think was based on misskey. It’s nice, basically a rich-text with lots of emoji reaction support etc expansion of Mastodon in many ways.
In the end, found the more simple approach of Mastodon my speed.
Personally, I’m happy with both. Lemmy and Mastodon are far from perfect and both feel sorta beta, though Mastodon is further along.
Search is weak on both platforms, imo, but I expect it will improve eventually.
You mention favorite counts only being your instance, but same is true for community subscribers here.
Also landing on other instances from outside links can be confusing to find the same content in your instance (Mastodon and Lemmy).
Federation does make things more complicated. But it beats centralization.
In the end, it comes down to your personal end use and preferences.
Personally, I like Mastodon for conversations and I like Lemmy for community building - I mod !alternativenation@lemmy.world - and that works for me. 💕
(Though I’d kill for some consistent performance from Lemmy after trying to comment 3 times)
silly to ignore the ripple effects across the globe from the trump administration… We have seen a hard right turn in many countries, many people emboldened by what he said and did. Anti-immigrant, anti-muslim, anti-all kinds of crap. His hate spread far and wide, my friend.
As a global artist (and a divisive one to boot) who traveled the world many times over and had to deal with fans and haters from every culture, Sinead, more than most people, was acutely attuned to many white attitudes.
of course not, but Sinead… is white. As a white converted Muslim, she was probably hyper aware of the Islamophobia within her own communities, fan base, and just in general.
Her post, while the language was divisive, it was obviously written out of frustration and what she meant is pretty clear & obvious to anyone paying attention to Islamophobia, especially post 9/11 and then again especially during Trump’s administration.
I’m a white. A queer. An atheist. And a fan.
White people have a very long & deep history of saying some really nasty shit about non-white people, especially of the muslim faith.
Most rebrands keep an element of the original or adopt how the customer refers to it. Think Dunkin dropping “Donuts” and Kentucky Friend Chicken becoming KFC.
All good.
But for Dunkin Donuts to suddenly rename itself “Place” - not so good.
Love Mona! Super customizable and well supported!
we only have a switch and a few ios games, we pay for game, play game. Check done.
