  • Yeah I love linux, but it’s user experience , while light years ahead of what I used in the late nineties and early aughts, is still clunky compared to others.

That being said, honestly most of linux’s issues are GUI related, when it comes to going mainstream. The capabilities and efficiency are far ahead of windows and mac os but most users don’t care.

Directions, examples and mundane work should all be seamless for mainstream consumers.

A good rule of thumb is, " if a user has to look for it to fix it, or open a terminal window to install software, then it won’t be accepted fully.

Mainstream users don’t want to type commands in a prompt. Why does everyone think windows blew DOS out of the water in sales? It wasn’t because DOS wasn’t working. It was, hell early windows ( I started on 3.11 so that’s my limit of knowledge ) still used DOS.

So bottom line. Start putting the non tech consumer first or we’ll forever be stuck in this “almost mainstream” category forever.

  • When free speech stops being a pseudonym for hate-speech, then I’ll pay attention to this

Usually what " free speech " and " no censorship" means no consequences to actions. That is t what those terms mean.

So I ignore those marketing buzzwords.

Let’s talk about speed, moderation and posting tools, user tools available, etc …

What abilities does the the platform ACTUALLY have.? If those are in the neighborhood of what I’m looking for, I’ll check it out.

But free speech and censorship buzzwords have lost meaning

  • Of course I’ve used windows. From 3.1 to 11.

I’m in Linux now. Been using that A long time as well

Additionally very very few people even know what a registry editor in windows is

Because what they want windows to do doesn’t need them to understand it. That’s the point.

They click a couple buttons, windows crashes behind the scenes then loads again , all without the user seeing it now.

Back in the day the bsod would show up but they got rid of it.

Now dos (both ibm and Ms ) that was a fun thing to play with. .

  • It would better to make peer tube super easy to use without needing to do more than cluck once on. A button and get going

The thing holding open source back is the gatekeeping. Developers could spend more time actually working with u.i experts to make things easy, but no. Rather make everyone think it’s some magic that requires 50 steps.

Make it easy to do business and give them a great product. That’s all that needs to be done. Do that foss community, and you’ll win.

  • I do. He will lose power. It WILL happen. It takes awhile to organize millions of people, but they are being organized, the protests have had an effect, Legal battle lines are being drawn with higher universities, etc… the slow roll of mobilization is happening and is gaining momentum. millions demonstrated last weekend, though the media barely talks about it. There will be encampments and other big protests set up. It is in the planning. from what I hear just don’t want it top end like occupy wall street. it has to be more organized, more united.

The magic word is time. It sucks. its slow, and its the master. But the time is also coming when the protests and organized institutions all reach a critical mass that the illegal administration cannot shout through. That’s when he will go to trial.

In two weeks , the container ships coming into the United states drops from over 20, to 12. That’s a huge hit to the supply lines and economy of the U.S. A hit to the food supplies , and the cash flow. those are the two that matter. think about what his support will be then.
