You’re right that default credentials should have gone away a decade ago. From my experience with security cameras, default credentials were the norm ~5 years ago and now most prompt you to create a unique password. That industry typically lags slightly in infosec best practices. I would expect routers to require a higher level of security.
Please tell me everyone has figured out that all large companies are pure fucking evil
Fixed that for you
I agree that microtransactions and loot boxes in gaming need regulation as well. Hopefully this is a step towards that.
Any protections to consumers are a win. I think overall this will be a positive for gamers.
IMHO this ruling is shortsighted and pushes for a future with increased monitisation that isn’t in the box value of the game and targets to hurt the Devs that make consumer friendly games while giving games with loot boxes and microtransactions an advantage in the market when talking in terms of overall sales for the devs.
Your last paragraph could hold some truth if publishers think this will affect profits. I don’t know if this would significantly impact profits since we’re talking about a new secondary market that did not exist in the digital space before. There’s probably some historical data for how physical used game sales affect new game sales but it might be hard to quantify since that market has existed pretty much from the beginning.
I would anticipate another across the board price increase for games as a result, but I see this more as an excuse for greed on the publishers’ parts rather than a cost to offset any actual lost revenue.
The golden mole project was in partnership with conservation group Re:wild, as part of its Search for Lost Species program, which aims to locate species whose status is unclear. De Winton’s golden mole is the 11th of its “most-wanted lost species” rediscovered since the program launched in 2017.
I hadn’t heard of this project before but it sounds like they’ve been incredibly successful. Once they’ve identified where the lost species lives, they can focus protection efforts in that area. Very cool!
Even the name Penguin is a hybrid of polar and penguin.
Businesses of a different industry can use the same name. There is nothing keeping you from using the website for blogging. The computer store might be problematic if it could be construed you are trying to profit from EA’s established trademark. Also, why would you want a .org for a storefront? I’d say get a different domain for your computer store.
