Lived in Ireland for 8 years. While a lot of European countries can be “casually racist” (that is to say, racist without specifically intending to be, or even realising), in Ireland I’ve experienced a lot of very overt, intentional racism.
Although… Hmm… I’m not sure if racism is really the right word, as you can experience the same kind of discrimination if you’re not from the local county. Or just from the local area…
Or from Dublin. There are a number of places in Ireland where you’re certainly a whole lot less welcome if you come from Dublin.
