And my cat says scratching furniture doesn’t damage it.
Just put scratching posts next to the furniture instead.
…she doesn’t actually scratch it any more, but I still use this analogy because it’s a light-hearted way to say “bullshit”.
Oh, okay. The thing is many people who live with cats complain they scratch their furniture but give them no alternatives and then get annoyed at them for normal behaviour, so we want to stop that attitude, that’s all.
Thanks for explaining though, we appreciate it.
It’s completely off-topic, but:
We used to have a rather large sisal fibre mat/rug at home, that Siegfrieda (my cat) used to scratch. However my mum got some hate boner against that mat, and replaced it with an actual rug. That’s when Frieda decided she’d hop onto the sofa and chairs and scratch them.
We bought her a scratching post - and she simply ignored it. I solved the issue by buying two smaller sisal mats, and placing them strategically in places Frieda hangs around. And then slapping her butt every time she used them, for positive behaviour reinforcement (“I’m pet when I scratch it! I should scratch it more!”)
I’m sharing this to highlight it’s also important to recognise each individual cat has preferences, that might not apply to other cats. She wanted a horizontal surface to scratch; so no amount of scratching posts would solve it.
Oooo, good point. Thanks for the advice and correction, we appreciate it!
AI did not, in fact, affect the rate that I clicked on results in Google search, at least if we’re talking clicks per search.
It made me stop using Google search instead.
Well that and the shitty results it kept giving me at the top of the page when all I wanted was the Mozilla docs on a specific CSS attribute.
Well done! What is your replacement search engine go-to ?
These days it’s Kagi. Manually ranking websites (pin, raise, lower, block) is a feature I couldn’t live without now.
They still use Google’s index to some extent from what I understand, but without all of Google’s shitty “features” like AI overviews and sponsored entries.
It’s probably upping my number of search clicks because I want to figure out what sort of crack it was on when it came up with my answer.
They changed circle search (home button search) to always include a desktop screenshot as part of the search on Android. It ruined the search experience. I responded by changing to Duckduckgo for all searching and disabled Gemini from the power button. I would venture I’m not alone
But that’s the whole point of the feature, isn’t it? (I don’t even have Gemini installed.) You hold down the circle nav button (or do whatever with gestures) and then use your finger to circle the part of your screen you’re trying to visually search for. “Circle to search”, right? I use it to ID bugs and things. Or translate text quickly from a photo.
Are you saying you would use it for just text searches? I’ve never thought it was for that. There’s a search box on the home screen for that, or just open your browser.
Being in marketing: BS.
Having seen how so many average people are using AI, I’m sadly not surprised that people are just going with whatever is up there, even when it is wrong.
