Paris is not nearly one of the most expensive cities. For a huge cultural capital it’s really quite affordable. Try Zurich or San Francisco or Singapore.

Zurich, jesus. May as well just hand someone a 100 euro note when you walk out of your door and be done with it, even if you don’t plan on spending anything.

I mean I’ve been to Zurich and Iceland pretty recently and they were hella expensive but still likely less than $20 for a bloody Mary.

20 dollars is about 16 CHF, that’s an extremely normal price for a cocktail. I live just outside Zurich, I’m not exaggerating for comedic or dramatic effect. In a fancy bar in district 1 or niederdorf it’s more like 25 CHF or 30 USD.

Just a random selection of a few bars in downtown:

Okay, so you realize that Zurich is like number two most expensive city in the world? And the prices you cite are still barely on par with this $25 claim which is heavily implied to be common in the post? This post may as well say that any hipster bar charges that much, which is absolutely not a thing for like 99% of the planet. I live in an expensive city and never rarely pay more than like $14 for a drink. Under $10 isn’t even that hard to find…

This reminds me of people bitching about whole foods being so expensive. Because wf carries high priced items, people can’t seem to get it in their head that you can easily go into a whole foods and buy the high quality store brand stuff for most items and come out of the store spending a pretty similar amount compared to whatever the lowest tier grocery store you can find. Just because whole foods sells $35 coffee beans doesn’t make it true that “whole foods is way too expensive”. Have some common sense and price shop and it’s easy to not spend much. Most of the products they sell aren’t those insane bullshit brands and the store brand is usually an option.

              Not really…?

I didn’t actually spend a lot of time in Zurich but I believe we spent about $50 USD per Person at a nice sit-down place with a wonderful view and we got drinks also. Which yes I consider that expensive but I didn’t surprise me because I knew what I was getting into.

It seems like I’m the only person who gets that “it is possible to find prices that high” is not the same as “is common in the vast majority of areas”. I’m not going to doxx myself here but trust me we pay way more for basically everything than almost anywhere else in the US, and we don’t see anything like $25 for a basic ass drink. I’m sure I could find that somewhere but given that I’m not a rich person I don’t really look at the insanely high prices shit when far more affordable things are easily found basically everywhere.

Like I told another commenter, under $10 for a bloody Mary is pretty easy to find here.

This meme is not saying anything like it’s the average price? It’s suggesting that the aesthetic of the tater tots in the jar conjures feelings of those places you can find which are that expensive.
