Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City on Tuesday, capping a stunning ascent for the 34-year-old state lawmaker, who was set to become the city’s most liberal mayor in generations.

In a victory for the Democratic party’s progressive wing, Mamdani defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani must now navigate the unending demands of America’s biggest city and deliver on ambitious — skeptics say unrealistic — campaign promises.

With the victory, the democratic socialist will etch his place in history as the city’s first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage and the first born in Africa. He will also become the city’s youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on Jan. 1.

Not saying you’re off base, but take a look at New Hampshire. We love to split. We currently have a Republican governor, entirely Dem congressional delegation, and did NOT go for Trump last November.

I’m a social anarchist and I’m loath to admit it, but I voted for our R governor in 2020 during COVID because he was doing a good job managing the crisis. Guy was a total cheeseball otherwise, but he was holding daily press conferences and pushing reasonable policy that kept case counts low during the worst of it.

It’s my first time and hopefully only time voting R. I just didn’t think we needed to change things up during such a crisis when it was being managed well, and we’ve had totally ineffective D governors in the past who could have really screwed things up. It also helps that our gubernatorial terms are only 2 years rather than 4 and, yeah, I was pretty sick of him by the end of the 2 years.

The 2 party split has always been a bit different in New England, especially VT, NH and ME. Our Republicans have tended to be somewhat reasonable people you disagree with, but could still hang out with and they could be trusted to get things done in their own way. (It’s probably due to our education actually being somewhat high-quality lol). National identities are starting to creep their way in as the old guard dies out, however.

So there, now you have met a split ticket voter.

I’m not saying that people don’t vote split tickets. Of course they do. I’m an Unaffiliated Independent, I voted split tickets for years, until the Republican Party decided to officially become the party of Treason & Corruption.

I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about voting a straight Democratic ticket, with TRUMP at the top. Not some random Republican for dogcatcher - Trump. The idea that strong Democrats could vote an entire straight ticket, but still vote for Trump is ludicrous.

You claim to be a split ticket voter for governor, but were you a split ticket voter for Trump? Do you know anybody up there in split-ticket land that were? Have you even HEARD of such a person?

I’m sure there are few, but they are as rare as white squirrels. There certainly weren’t millions of them, and the real problem is that BOTH parties leaped on the “fair & square” bullshit almost as soon as the polls closed. There were no studies, no investigations, etc. into what was certainly the crookedest election in America history. They didn’t even demand it, only to be turned down by the controlling MAGAs. They just decided to cooperate with the psychopathic MAGAs and pretend it didn’t happen. The Democrats themselves, the injured party, seemed to jump to that conclusion faster and harder than even the Republicans. The Dems were clearly too cowardly to take on that fight, so they just surrendered the American people to the treasonous Nazis pedophiles.

It is because of things like this that the American people have lost ALL confidence in the Democratic party. The MAGAs are excited by that, and in their limited lack & white view of the world, they think it means that the American people love MAGA instead. They are too intellectually limited to understand that it is possible for the American people to despise BOTH parties for their betrayals.

What we want is a hard reset, and a new try at a new government, one that is truly “Of the People, For the People, and By the People,” and NOT the Sociopathic Oligarchs. They caused this mess, and they’re going to pay for it.
