Dust and pet hair know no bounds.
Haha true, but only dust for me, no pets. I guess having carpet doesn’t help either. Let’s just say that it adds to the vibe.
I was just about to say the dust fits. It does add to the vibe.
From a more civilized age.
Right? It feels like gaming peaked with the 6th console generation. Just a fun time to look back at.
GameCube, PS2, and GameCube 1.5 lol
When the Wii launched, a few pundits called it “two GameCubes taped together”, which I thought was a bit rude and overly dismissive.
Years later, I started really looking into the technical side of things, and oh my goodness it really is almost two GameCubes taped together. I mean, it works wonderfully and I’m not knocking it, but IIRC the majority of what’s under the hood is either an upgraded version of what was in the GCN, or a doubling of the capacity (in some cases literally two) of the same component.
And that’s fine too, I think. This is what gave the Wii the perfect backwards compatibility, allowing many more people to enjoy Gamecube games on original hardware without getting a Gamecube, which are way more expensive today.
And you know, the Wii is like a beast when it comes to sub HD stuff. It’s the most powerful console that ever released that wasn’t designed with HD TVs in mind. That lead to many Wii games just looking really damn good and clean. Seriously, Mario Galaxy on a CRT in RGB looks absolutely stunning.
But maybe they did go to far trying the same thing again with the Wii U.
A hacked Wiiu though, chef’s kiss
Absolutely. The Wii U modding community is really active, I feel like there’s something new every few months. I love it!
My middle age crisis retro tech collection compulsion is begging me to shout at you to take those brittle plastics out of direct sunlight. Those readily available, dirt cheap, well emulated plastics.
I mean, at least the Wavebird receiver. Won’t somebody think of the Wavebird receiver.
I know I know, you’re right. This is a rather temporary setup, I plan to arrange the consoles a bit differently so they’re less in the sunlight.
Even now, its just during the evening, and my Gamecube, which is the most susceptible to yellowing, is already kinda yellow unfortunately. Same for the wavebird receiver.
But you’re still right, I should put something over these consoles for now.
Here’s how fried my brain is from retro collecting, I was about to genuinely say “nah, don’t bother, these are cheap, just buy a second set of them and keep them in proper storage”.
As if that was a reasonable thing. Don’t get into retro hardware kids. Not even once.
There’s a certain time of day that my little stack sits nicely in the sun with the cabinet door open.
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, having some evening sun shine into a room just gives it a great vibe. I just wish it wasn’t 29°C in here
Anyway, thanks for commenting as well!
And a VCR! Looove this setup, takes me back.
That VCR is from my parents, they don’t use it anymore. I don’t really have any tapes for it though.
We had the first 3 Star Wars movies on VHS, which was the reason I set the thing up. Unfortunately, these tapes have somehow disappeared completely, they are nowhere to be found.
So it’s just decoration for now, but I’ll definitley get some other movies one day. Thank you for your comment!
Lol for years I had a tv VCR combo with only The Goonies, In The Army Now, and some old MASH episodes someone put on a tape. A simpler time indeed!
