Additionally, I’m not sure how China would have reached this position without a specific effort by the United States to engage in increased trade with them.

The bottom line is that China got unfathomable wealthy after Nixon opened the flood gates of commerce and allowed the United States manufacturing to be looted by greedy American interest and the Chinese.
