For me personally I think it has to be the new Alliance Raid. As a 10 year FFXI player I’m very much looking forward to visiting Vana’diel again, and honestly there are few things more fun in this game than day 1 alliance raids when no one knows the mechanics and gear isn’t causing you to skip mechanics!

Another quiet week in game though, got my White Mage to level 80 so I’ve been able to equip the poetics weapon for my Aerith glam, but honestly I’m not sure I’m going to continue with it. I’m sure part of it it lack of familiarity with the class but I’m just not enjoying it like I enjoy Scholar. Admittedly having a gap closer has been super nice (I managed to gap close into a tower on Cloud of Darkness the other day that no one had taken to avoid it doing a raid wide which felt good), but I miss the flexibility Scholar gives you.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t bother with 80 this week. Didn’t have any of the stuff on hand and didn’t want to spend any money on it 👀

That’s not an uncommon reaction I feel once you complete the main story and are living patch to patch rather than being fully immersed in the world. It’s very easy to get in a rut where you’re playing as a tick the box exercise rather than actively working towards something. I know I’ve had nights where I’ve logged on and thought “okay, now what?”, so complete understand where you’re coming from!

But don’t be afraid to take a step back and have some time away between patches if you’re not finding fulfilment! 7.1 news should be dropping tomorrow so hopefully that gives you something to look forward to, but even if it doesn’t, there’s always plenty of other games out there that you can try if FFXIV isn’t doing it for you at the moment!

Completely get the low motivation. I feel this late into a patch it’s not an uncommon thing. If you’re not working on something else, getting into a rut of capping the 450 tome, get the raid tier tokens, do your custom deliveries, do Doma restoration, etc., isn’t difficult. (I’m literally queuing for Expert roulette as we speak 😅).

Hopefully once the news on 7.1 starts to come out it’ll peak your interest again! And if not? Don’t stress 😊 Letting a couple of patches build to get a bigger hit after a break isn’t a bad thing either!

That sounds like a cool little project! I haven’t taken much time to play with the game’s internals since I play on console so it isn’t really possible, but love to see what people can do with a bit of free time and a curiosity to understand how something works!

I’m also looking forward to the raid, although largely because I was an FFXI player for over 10 years, so am curious to see which parts of the game they decide to use for the basis of the raids.

I’ve had a quiet week this week. Haven’t really ticked much off the to do list other than gaining a few levels on my white mage. Should hit 80 this week and then I can try the 80 poetics weapon @pasty@raru.re suggested for my Aerith glam 😊 Did manage to get two non CT Alliance Raids this week though! (Void Ark and Mhach… but at least they’re not CT!)

For 7.1 I’m going to assume we get our first tribal quests (I’ve already forgotten what they’re rebranded to now 😅), and I reckon it’ll be the Pelupelu. Pretty sure they announced them as one of the groups during the DT media tour (I could be wrong there) and given their involvement and proximity with Tuliyollal they seem the most likely choice.

This is as far as I’ve gotten with it so far. But not happy with the weapon choices I have (right now I’m just using the level 70 poetics weapon cause I just ticked over to 70 last week and haven’t bothered to glam it).

We had a system at work that generated 4 character alphanumeric reference numbers. Originally to avoid this they just excluded vowels from the letters but eventually they grew enough they ran out of available reference numbers so they added the vowels back in and I had to built the blacklist to avoid stuff like this happening. I reckon I probably tripped every IT filter known to man in a week long period looking for swear words in a variety of languages 😂

The part where people share asterisks when they talk about their passwords? Just seems like good security honestly 😂 Glad Lemmy is keeping up with this pinnacle of security best practices.

There’s usually Discord servers too that coordinate runs on the different servers if it’s something you’re wanting to jump into! I haven’t does DRS yet but there’s a new DRS player group planned for the start of next month on Materia that I’m really thinking about giving a go (especially since it’s a weekend where my wife is away so I’ll be at home just with the kids so taking over the lounge room for a run wouldn’t be a major hassle 😊).

Fun fact as well, if you have one of the custom facades being used on your house and then upgrade to a larger plot, the facade upgrades to the new size as well! So you don’t need to say grab a small one initially and then craft a medium one later, it’ll just upgrade with the plot.

Don’t think it applies to the piecemeal facades though (not 100% sure on that) where you pick all the individual features.

And yeah, totally understand about the lack of good plots. That being said if you can afford it I’d still recommend getting your foot in the door so to speak with a view to upgrade later when you can, only because it gives you access to the company workshop and submarines, which while it takes months to fully max out eventually becomes a license to print gil with minimal work. And since it does take a while to get to that point, the earlier you start the sooner you’ll be done.

Plus you can unlock workshop crafts to make the new housing facades. They’re often a good money maker right when the new patches drop!

Urgh, the Zodiac weapons are such a grind 😒 But congratulations on getting it done! Now you can decide if you want to keep it or trade it in to skip a step in the HW relics. Since you’re never going to use it for stats these days, and trading it in permanently unlocks the ability to by replicas (if you haven’t you need to have the weapon on you to purchase the replicas, so if you lose it for some reason you have to do it all over again), it’s usually a good option to pursue.

And good job on the Ixali - that too is a big grind and I was so happy when it was finally done! Now you can finally get rid of that stupid crafting glove 😅

You can always move over to Materia if you want housing, we’ve still got small plots available for FCs 😊 Probably not the smartest idea if you’re not in Australia though…

I didn’t enjoy the variant dungeons enough to bother going through all the routes personally. They felt like a slog. To be fair I did do them solo, would probably be better in a group, but yeah, it wasn’t content that grabbed me. I do want to go back to whichever one gives you the giant pixie mount though at some point. Will get to that some day.

I finally got my last Endwalker role quest done a few weeks ago too! I didn’t have a high level melee DPS and picked up Viper after Dawntrail so was finally about to get through it all (kinda cheated in ShB since melee and ranged were just grouped as physical DPS). They’re a bit of fun honestly, I enjoyed doing them. Hope you are as well!

And nothing wrong with feeling disinclined to play for a bit! The game is honestly structured around that, so put your feet up so to speak, do what you feel like doing and don’t feel worried about not logging on!

I was away over the weekend so was a short week for me in game this week, but I’m trying to start tanking more in content to get more familiar with it. I think I’m finally at a point now where I’m comfortable just joining a roulette at any level as a Warrior and can do the Arcadion raids as a MT. Just need to use my mitigations more frequently.

Note to self: FRU is the acronym for the new Ultimate 😅

I’m assuming you’re gearing three separate characters if your goal is FRU launch? I wouldn’t have thought BiS for 3 jobs on one character was doable in that amount of time.

Completely get the concerns on a static. I tried to get a group together with some friends for Anabaseios, we were getting to the FIFA mechanic regularly but people stopped showing up regularly before we could clear it. I don’t want to be that person in a static and my work schedule does make it challenging some weeks so I’ve just stayed out of Savage this time around.

It sounds like you’re getting there though, and if you’re seeing the enrage then you’ll be pretty close to start joining a clear party at least! And once you’ve gotten to that point it’s just repetition for reclears 😊 So don’t get discouraged, you’re definitely getting there! And thank you for sharing 🙏🏻

Well done! Are you finding your groups are getting through the mechanics now and just struggling on damage output or are they still limping through the fight and going down regularly?

I’m still getting to grips with White Mage’s toolkit but also only at level 69 so still have a lot left to unlock. Level 50 feels so unsatisfying though compared to Scholar. Like, at least let me use lilies during the umpteenth Crystal Tower raid for the week.
