I see now how I answered ambiguously, but we’re in agreement. The miserable crowd that just wants less shitty news should have space of their own. This instance should be uplifting.

“Misery loves company.” The most miserable among us tend to group together and complain together. You heard from the vocal minority that feeds on schadenfreude.
This is uplifting? “People are turning away from absolute horror to embrace less than the bare minimum” I’m sorry, but the DNC is total shit, it’s not fascism, but that shouldn’t be the bar we’re measuring by.
That’s all they really know anyways, reality TV. Bit of a misnomer really.
From what I understand, this is a common strategy in logging large tracts. Definitely looks interesting by how precise it looks from above.
Get it to the corners of the lips and thick, you got a Tom Selleck, just around the edge, you have a Ron Swanson, 2cm past, you’re into Fu Manchu territory
I’m sure it’s at least that percentage that feels the same in our small mountain town in the southern Appalachian mountains.
Could it be that the world is beautiful and worth exploring, and the ability and means to travel has never been as accessible?
There are things in those books that are demonstrably true, but that doesn’t necessarily prove everything in them just as those things that are demonstrably false don’t necessarily disprove everything in them.
It’s just a matter of not being able to observe, measure, or physically test a god’s existence. From an objective standpoint, believing whether a god exists or not is still just a belief.
I’m only trying to show how a scientific person could compartmentalize their beliefs from their studies and to that end, I think we agree that they aren’t incompatible. What someone chooses to believe after that is up to them, because as you point out, there’s no peer reviewed published evidence one way or another.
The big difference is that many religious beliefs can’t be tested. They are just believed in faith. In science, nothing is believed. It’s all evidence based and tested. A scientist doesn’t have to reconcile their religious beliefs with their scientific ways because their beliefs are outside the realm of the scientific method. They accept that they don’t have a way to measure or test those things.
Keep experimenting and refining.
Pine can be stained and finished. Oak, cherry, and maple can sometimes look like crap. It’s a matter of preparing the wood properly. Try making sample boards. Sand consistently, don’t skip grits, don’t apply much pressure to the sander (let it do the work,) experiment with a pre-stain conditioner. It can help minimize splotching and some tooling marks.
Traditional (penetrating) stain needs to be applied evenly and benefits greatly from pre-stain conditioner.
Gel stains (sometimes called wiping stains, but that term gets misused) are wipe on, wipe off excess about five minutes later if you weren’t already doing that. They are made to sink in a certain amount and stop.
Urethanes don’t typically do well with back brushing, especially fast dry varieties. Spread urethanes thick and consistently and try not to go back over it. Lightly sand at 220 or 320 between coats and remove swarf with tack cloth or lint free cloth lightly dampened with alcohol.
Tung oils are rubbed in. Danish oils are applied thinly. These are relatively similar. Lightly sand between coats like above.
The book “Understanding Wood Finishing” by Bob Flexner is an astoundingly comprehensive book on the subject.
Don’t give up on pine just yet. Hemlock, heart pine, many others can all be quite beautiful in the right setting and application. For rough stuff, try the pre-stain conditioner
Weird take. When was the last time you came across a dog that had been bitten by a snake? This is just a heartwarming story, and your takeaway is that most people suck? Most people don’t find themselves in this situation
Doesn’t look like oak to me. For oak, I look for medullary rays that would appear running perpendicular to the rings on the end grain. I don’t see any of those.
That’s gross. Paper straws are the way 🤌
Woah woah woah, will someone please think of the cocaine users?
Maybe but might be a stretch. Defenestration refers to the act of throwing someone/something out of a window. We have to consider the pressure “throwing” instead of sucking you out, which might be acceptable since the pressure inside the plane is greater and ends up pushing you out of the window in it’s escape. From the perspective that you’re sucked out of the window, it doesn’t seem like the definition would apply.
Endorfun. I got it for Christmas in 95 or 96 and would spend hours playing it. Years later I would get emulators to continue playing it. Introduced my college roommate to it. There were times I couldn’t get the sound of the animations to work, but I kept coming back to it. Every now and then, I’ll revisit it. Wish it would get a rerelease or new version, maybe something I could pay on my phone. Loved the music, the moving colors and textures. It has a therapeutic way of getting me out of my head.
Thanks for confirming that!
I want to keep using signal with my friends that use signal. If I get an SMS text, it currently goes to signal with no way to respond. If I were to use the native Android messenger or a third party app, would it only receive sms or would it also receive signal messages as well since it’s linked to the same number?
It’s those texts that try to engage you in conversation.
