Yeahhh Machine Games was real busy making that Indiana Jones game that came out last year. FWIW, there is a lot of Wolfenstein TNO DNA in that Indiana Jones game. It’s a lot of first-person action with stealth sequences that are more refined than what you find in Wolfenstein. And Indy himself is distinctly anti-Nazi, and a lot of the game is killing Nazis.

totally fair. However, I think there’s a case to be made for it, at least so long as we have to live under capitalism. If an individual artist comes up with a unique character that becomes popular, that character is an important piece of that artist’s livelihood. Ripoffs and clones would eat into the artist’s livelihood, and now the artist doesn’t have enough money to live on the earnings from their art alone. They have to go get a soul-sucking job to make ends meet. Should we not be protecting that artist’s livelihood from copycats that would seek to profit from the artist’s creativity without paying the artist for that right? Should we not be doing everything we can to ensure that artists can live off their artwork alone, if they are talented enough?

In Sony’s defense, this actually seems like a case of copyright working as intended. Tencent basically started creating a Horizon game before getting approval from Sony, then they asked Sony and Sony said no, so they just went ahead and made it anyway, but they did the bare minimum to obscure that the game used to be a Horizon project. If Sony can prove that these facts are true, they definitely have a case. On the other hand, Tencent may have a point when they say that Horizon is in itself a derivative concept, so it’s a bit silly to accuse anyone of ripping off a franchise that is not particularly original.

yeah i’m skeptical for the same reason. “Episodic” seems to always end in disaster for devs, but hey, who knows? The market has changed a lot in the past few years, maybe episodic makes more sense now?

Devil’s advocate, it’s possible they learned a lot by trying and failing, and now they are better equipped than anyone to figure it out.

Each game in that series is a full length game. Episodic implies that each entry in the series will be shorter, cheaper, and with more frequent releases.

Radarr is for movies, Sonarr is for TV. You tell Sonarr which TV shows you want in your library, and then Sonarr automatically searches the torrent sites or usenet sites that you specified in your settings to find the episodes. There are a whole bunch of settings you can tweak to tell Sonarr what you consider to be a “good” file, so when Sonarr automatically searches, it finds the best version available for each episode. When it finds those good files, it automatically passes them to your torrent client (like qBittorrent) for download. When the files finish downloading, Sonarr automatically creates a copy of the file and renames the copy in a way that makes it super easy for Jellyfin to find the metadata. When it creates this copy, it uses a special kind of copying called “hardlinking” which makes it look like two copies, but only take up the space of one file. This has the advantage of having one folder for raw downloads and another for your actual media library, so you can easily keep seeding files while also having a version of the files you can rename for metadata purposes.

Even if you don’t use Radarr/Sonarr for downloading, they are still pretty useful for media management.

I think it’s more about knowing what to say when this topic inevitably comes up in interpersonal conversation. It’s not about convincing the conservatives, it’s about convincing the centrists on the sidelines saying nothing. I think they are particularly sensitive to the argument that this was a politically-motivated assassination, and so it’s important to remind those people that the right has blatantly lied about this. To remind them about the stats that you mentioned, that most of these shooters are conservative white males.

Seeing it elsewhere online, but let’s highlight it here. The Right has been trying to paint this shooting as a politically-motivated assassination caused by “transgender ideology” or whatever. Now that we have a clear and believable suspect, we know the truth: this was a young, white, cis male who was likely conservative, at least at some point in the recent past (there’s photos of him wearing a Donald Trump costume for a past Halloween). We should be shouting from the rooftops that the Right lied about this, because, more than anything else, we want to tamp down political violence. These specific lies being peddled by the Right are with the aim of escalating political violence.

Yeah that adds up. Everything is about naked, cynical capitalism now. I guess my millennial brain is stuck in the era where I thought the point of consumer electronics was to make cool devices that people wanted to buy.

what makes it spyware? i get wanting to boycott everything Microsoft because of…well, everything they do to make the world worse. But spyware is a new one.
