The former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison after being found guilty of plotting a military coup.

A panel of five Supreme Court justices handed down the sentence just hours after they had convicted the former leader.

They ruled he was guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

On the less positive side: one of the judges disagreed with everything, tens of thousands of supporter were supporting him in the street when the ruling happened, parliament allies are trying to make an amnesty law for him. I hope Brazilian people keep fighting for their democracy hard because the attacks will never stop.

I can’t speak for the whole country, but at least in my city, it’s notable how bolsonarism has been losing energy. I know people who were strong supporters who are not caring for him anymore and less and less people are talking about him in public places. I believe today’s news will deliver another strong blow against this collective madness, and the slow improvement in the economy since last elections will bring more people back to supporting the left parties, at least the worker’s party.

Once the online propaganda/psyops funding dries up, it’s amazing how quickly the masses move on from a controversial figure. That’s why I don’t think the MAGA infection that the US has will last long without billionaires continually pumping their bullshit. There’ll always be cultists, but I even remember seeing how quickly most folks moved on after 2021, only for a resurgence around late 2023 when lots of billionaires flooded his campaign coffers.

Problem is our billionaires are all in. And also, their fortune comes from the propaganda machines (social media).

          It’s not great.

It would help if we become the next North Korea though.
