So? That’s as pathetic as that American constantly alternating tomato(or was it something else? Not important in this case…) classification. You can classify birds as dragons and this would change nothing.

I can’t work out if you disagree that birds are dinosaurs or if you think a showerthought needs to have a deeper point to it. Or both.

        birds are dinosaurs

Don’t know or care about formalism here. But from a common point of view, that is just some pedantic bullshit (even if true at all) because when we say “dinosaur” we always mean animals from millions of years ago. Same level of annoyance as those crazies who claim that “water isn’t wet”.

you think a showerthought needs to have a deeper point

This. But I understand that we have bathtubs for deeper thoughts.

it isn’t an arbitrary reclassification like Pluto. or a discrepancy between different usages like culinary usages will have biological fruits moved into vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers.

it is more like discovering that Birds are descendants of dinosaurs and because dinosaurs is a monophyletic classification , it means that all birds are in fact dinosaurs.

if it is shocking to you because when you hear dinosaurs you think of movie monsters, then it’s a you issue.

that’s like believing a real farm pony can’t be a pony because from my lived experience ponnies can talk and have friendship magic.

              They sound so depressingly pathetic.

This trivial thing they are objectively wrong about and refuse to change their mind. Everyone else is wrong because when we say “dinosaur” it is not the same thing as when he thinks “dinosaur”.

Imagine how insufferable they must be on other topics.

I really don’t want to know how insufferable they must be on other topics because I can totally imagine what they are like in political discussions.

Birds are dinosaurs like a lion is a cat. When we say “cat” wie also always mean a felis catus, but that doesn’t change the fact that a lion still is a cat.

Same with birds and dinosaurs. It’s not pedantic to say that birds are dinosaurs, it’s pure, basic biology. And not even advanced biology. Everyone who made it past year 6 in school should know this. Lack of education is nothing to be proud of.

I agree if we were talking about the stuff in a more serious manner but in this case it fits perfectly as a shower thought because its clear that we are talking about ‘technically’. Birds are inarguably dinosaurs via phylogeny hence it is funny that dino nuggets are dinosaurs in two ways.
