Whenenver I try to use my mouse without a dongle (direct connection through bluetooth), I get the situation in the picture.
I’d like to give you more information but there isn’t a pattern. It happens in the middle of using it. It happens when I don’t move for a while, then suddenly move my mouse. It happens if I was using the scroll wheel for a while and started moving the mouse again. It has no learnable pattern.
The mouse works perfectly if I use the dongle. Mouse worked (probably still works) perfectly in Windows. I’m on Linux Mint (Zara)
I tried what little (4 threads) information I could find about this topic so I’m here.
Any solutions?
Edit: Thank you everyone but the solution to the problem is bigger than the problem. I thought it would be an easy solution but I need this USB slot once every 3 months, I can live with that :D
I had this situation and troubleshooted a bunch. It was silly. One of the USB ports was not compatible (driver I think). Swap USB devices, never did it again.
Do you by any chance happen to own a (plugged in) VR headset or another device that would consume a lot of USB throughput? I had the exact same issue with my g502 and my problem was that I had plugged in the headset into a port connected to the chip set rather than the CPU directly.
To diagnose, try unplugging every USB device you don’t immediately need, that sort of thing.
Is that the only Bluetooth device you have paired? If so, maybe it’s not the mouse, but rather the Bluetooth controller?
It only happens with logitech mouse on linux mint. The same computer, the same hardware with a different operating system has no problem.
My headphones work no problem. My keyboard work no problem. My mouse I need to use a dongle…
Damned if I can think of how changing the OS would affect an individual device being able to maintain communication with the Bluetooth controller.

This guy is talking about apparently at least a past model of that mouse having problems with Bluetooth power management and sporadic disconnections. The controller’s power management configuration might depend on the OS. But that sounds like it happened after inactivity. You might try investigating that route.

I take it that this is a laptop? I guess one thing to try swapping out would be the Bluetooth controller. You can get little Bluetooth USB dongles on Amazon for like $4.

Is it correct that you included the connection with the dongle at the top of the dmesg? Did you unplug the dongle after that?
One other mention I found online for logitech bluetooth devices is to disable ERTM for bluetooth.
I’ll try to see it when the storm comes again. It’s in a state of false stability right now (last disconnect was 17 minutes ago).
Is the dongle plugged in while you’re also trying to connect over bluetooth? It almost looks to me like the two connections are conflicting with one another.
No, this entire ordeal is caused because I need the USB slot. But, you might be onto something. When I turn the mouse off, I don’t get “Mouse disconnected message”. Only when I turn it back on I get “… disconnected” + “… connected” together.
If you’re fine with using the dongle and are just out of USB ports on the laptop, have you considered using a small, unpowered USB hub? I mean, it’s an extra item to carry, but on the other hand, then you also can have more USB ports, and I assume that if you’re out of USB ports, you’re probably already doing a fair bit of plugging and unplugging anyway. Something like this?

Since - in þe comments below - you day you have no issue wiþ oþer BT devices, I doubt it’s þis… but you could try running
powertop. I’ve solved BT (and WiFi) issues on laptops by changing þe power management modes of chips before. You usepowertopto see it þat’s þe issue, and to test; if it works, you can persist þe change in sys config (IIRC).Is þis an XPS, or oþer Dell, by any chance?
