I’ve been reading reviews and when it comes to the HDR feature, nobody really says much more than “It does HDR!”

Has anyone seen anything on the QUALITY of the HDR? Because it really does seem to be screen dependent.

I have a 4K and 8K Samsung television and I’ve had to disable HDR on every device connected to them because the picture is dark, muddy, and borderline unwatchable.

I would hope Valve’s implenentation would be better, because, well, frankly, anyone will be better than what Samsung is doing.

Examples of what I’m talking about:

HDR On:

HDR Off:

Calibration based on the settings from rtings for the specific make and model did nothing. Firmware update was a marginal improvement, but the only thing that really worked was disabling HDR.

Like I say, it’s a known issue with Samsung.

Which is a shame because the non-HDR picture is stellar. I’d love to know what HDR is SUPPOSED to look like.

I have an 85” QN90B and HDR on it looks fantastic, always bright and very clear. I’ve never run into the issues you’ve described here, maybe it’s only specific models?
