Pretty fun alternative to Black Mesa for a “modernized” Half-Life experience. The feel of the GoldSource engine is simply impossible to replicate.

I like the feel of GoldSource (different people have different opinions, crazy I know). Chalk it up to endless hours spent playing Counter-Strike 1.6.
MMod makes it feel fresh by cleaning up the animations, providing higher quality but faithful models, and tweaking some game design choices without being too intrusive.
I loved HL2 MMod, didn’t care for HL1 MMod. I think I’d enjoy playing it if the enemy placements were a bit more well thought out. I’m not going to go too far into it, as I’m sure at least some of it has annoyed you as well. I’m good with the other changes made, and I do respect the team behind HL1 MMod, but the enemies often feel… out of place.
What do you mean? I’ve noticed it does like to hide headcrab zombies near item pickups or in shadows as “gotchas” but they haven’t actually done any really damage and they don’t feel immersion breaking to me. Otherwise there were some rocket launcher placements in the on a rail sequence that seemed only beatable if you jumped out of the cart before seeing the launchers and were already scoped in on them instantly. Those are the only things that really stick out though.
Have you played Half-Life without mods before?
