I don’t know why you’d need to root in 2023. I’d stick to a secure custom OS instead that can have secure boot. Something like CalyxOS or GrapheneOS. Lineage or /e/ or something if you don’t have a pixel.
Not really. Root lets you completely replace the stock YouTube install and works without microG, but that’s about it iirc. And if you have the Play Store installed, you need to make sure it doesn’t try to “update” rooted Revanced and break things.
I prefer the non-root version, even on rooted devices.
No idea. As I root everything by default, I never checked what happens without root, lol. BTW, I didn’t use ReVanced for youtube, but for a different app.
I mean hey, anything’s better the iOS lol. I don’t think rooting is a good idea, but anyone running a custom aosp ROM is an ally of mine. We custom ROM users gotta stick together!
Sorry, I don’t know the answer. I think it’s highly unlikely since encryption makes the data unreadable but I imagine it be possible to decrypt the data from inside the phone, backup it and then re-encrypt it after restoration. Still not that sure tho so you can search the net and see if it’s doable .
the trade between an encrypted storage and the ability of a full backup is a very bad deal. Unless you’re talking for a phone that you leave at home at all times
For calyx and lineage: I don’t think you can call the livedisplay settings CLI without root. For example I have a 1-click widget to turn my phones RGB values to all red. Or is there a way? (Needs to be RGB, not some crappy red overlay)
I have a degoogled phone without root lol, I’m running GrapheneOS. All you’re doing is opening yourself to his security vulnerabilities with root. Desktops are entirely different then phones. Everything you mentioned does not require root.

With root, YouTube URLs will open in the app by default. Without root, they won’t. Otherwise, there’s not a huge difference.

So what part of this requires root again? They all work fine without root.
AppManager, for instance. But, you know what? Don’t root your devices. I’ll keep rooting mine just because I can.

FYI: DriveDroid doesn’t work with newer android versions, IsoDrive works better anyway
Odd… It works for me on A13… I’ll try IsoDrive anyway. Thanks!
Strange, doesn’t work for me on A14, Evolution X rom
Actual full backups, for one.
does it work for encrypted phones?

You’re right, you don’t know why.
Do you not need root on your pc then? I don’t on my work pc, because it’s their device. I do on my own pc’s, because they’re my devices.
These are computers, root is part of managing things. This push away from root is Google trying to control our devices.
Root defines whether it’s my device or it’s controlled by Google. I guess you want devices controlled by Google.
