New NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte visited Ukraine on Thursday in his first official trip since taking office and pledging the alliance’s continued support for Kyiv in its war with Russia.

Rutte met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv as air raid sirens twice went off in the Ukrainian capital.

The new head of NATO vowed when he took office on Tuesday to help shore up Western support for Ukraine, which has been fighting Russia’s full-scale invasion since February 2022 and has for most of this year been on the defensive due to a relentless Russian army push in the country’s eastern regions.

C’mon this is exactly what Putin said he was afraid of. Countries can support Ukraine, NATO should stfu because it’s a defensive alliance.

It’s fairly simple. Help Ukraine for pennies or pay the pound when they’re invaded.

Yes, individual countries do that. Not NATO. Can no one separate the two?

C’mon Ukraine asked to join nato. Also in your own words it’s a defensive alliance, so… what’s the problem?

A NATO chief (or whatever position) shouldn’t show up to a warzone that is not related to NATO. It’s a boring alliance signed by politicians. NATO follows the politicians, not the other way around.

But it’s not a warzone according to the source of your comment.

Also the chief is a politician

They expressed interest in doing a defensive agreement. Nato is " following the politicians"

Seriously? Ukraine may have, but they are not in. NATO answers to current member’s politicians. JFC. NATO chiefs shouldn’t trapeze around, the politicians can, not the NATO chiefs.

Seriously? Boring politicians in Brussels or wherever. Not a fucking visiting NATO chief to an active warzone. Plus you can’t even join if you have territorial disputes, so NATO can’t even accept them right now. Everyone knows this.

You seem to have basic staff and activities utterly twisted up and can’t separate them out. I can’t keep correcting you all night so I’m probably out.

So why are you so uptight about this? They can’t even join right now, plus it’s defensive.
