Looking into it, donating to pay off national debt has been a thing for fucking decades. It’s a pretty useless program that spent more over the decades dealing with it than the peasly voluntary taxation it’s pulled in.
Nonetheless, the OD expanding the program to include Venmo and then a news org shouting “Trump is really asking people to Vennmo to pay off the national debt” implying how they do is misleading and gross.

I knew that this existed for a long time. I didn’t know that you can use Venmo or PayPal now. It seems that wasn’t possible in the past.
